TV Stand Idea - Thoughts?

Yep, Shop 2 is rolling around, and I'm tossing around ideas for a new and improved TV stand, designed around me and my needs...and heres what I have come up with...

The TV stand is based around the simple idea of changing out cables, gear all the time...

I am so tired of going behind my system to reach things (considering there is no space behind my tv rack)...

The middle section will be removeable, it will be a completely different section, it will have small wheels on the bottom of it for easy access...

It will have a back piece for cable managment...then back piece will slide into a back piece to the actual TV stand with mores holes for the other cables outside the 2 channel setup...

Of course, since there isnt a middle section, there will have to be some type of middle support to support the TV (unlike my current tv stand), so I plan to line 2 or 3 1/2" strips along the edges of the cut of the TV stand...

Chances are, I will paint the legs and strips with truck bed liner, and stain the shelf part rosewood to match my custom DT caps...

Just thinking up stuff for now, any input it appreciated...

The side part will probally be wide enough to hold all my other components, and will be a piece of wood on the front (not in the center), so the other gear wont be seen, but easily accessed...

How tall are you gonna make it? I think I'd want at least three shelves for and amp and two sources, or a pre, amp, and source...

My salamander is about 27 inches tall and seems to give everything enough room to breath.

One other consideration is to make the base high enough off the ground so that you can vaccum under it. I hate dust bunnies.

The rolling cart is a good idea.

Well, I was going to base it around my current one, space between the shelves like I have currently...

Particularly since the center can be rolled out, height from floor to base isnt a big deal, especially since it isnt like that already...

The middle shelf will hold -

amp, preamp, CDP

the side part, which will be covered with a wood piece in the front, will be open in the sides, and will hold the DVDP, VCR, and XBox -

The width of the side shelves will be based around the deepest component, and then there will be about 2" of space between it and the center console with a back plate for routing wires from those components to the center console and getting the power cables to the plug in, but most importantly...out of view...

I will probally only do this with the bottom portion of the setup though, as I want the amp to have alot of breathing room up top and the sides...

I will try to think up a way to raise it off the ground to make it easier to vaccume...maybe a bottom 'lip' that lifts up or slides off...

If this current stand can hold my tv...............

Anything I build can... this current one is either .75" PB or MDF...hmm

I'll be making mine out of 3/4" Plywood...alot stronger than MDF or PB

Sid, are you sure that room of yours can hold any more "stuff"? ;)
Seriously, it looks like a nice set up, I'm sure you can pull it off. Just remember lots of breathing room for the gear and plan ahead, you know, for upgrades!:D

I've thought about using a pull out TV shelf on top and bottom. Finding one that pulls out far enough, and still swivels, is what I am having trouble with so far.

Thanks for that link, actually didnt give me some ideas....

As for a TV pull out, I'd design my own so that...when it was being pulled out, you could pull down a restractable leg that can reach the floor (possibly two) for support and would allow you to pull it all the way out...just a thought if you were to decide to build your own...

I hope to build this, will depend, this would be very expensive to make, and thats with no mistakes...
