I have been reading lately about upgrades or modifications for the Denon DVD 2900 universal player. I was wondering if anyone knows anything about these from personal experience, whether they are worth it or not, etc......I assume it voids the original warranty.

I haven't heard the 2900 mods, but I heard the 3910 mods from aplhifi.com. It was nothing short of breath-taking experience listening to that machine. You can find out more from their website. I had my Philips SACD1000 done by him (Alex at aplhifi.com) and it continues to be my reference player. There are several reviews on these mods over on Hi-Rez forum at AA.

Yes, it will void the warranty, but all of the modders will take over the warranty from that point on. Underwood HIFI, Richard Kern, etc. are amongst those modders. Is it worthed? Well, it is really up to you, for me, it is indeed. Costs can get pretty steep, so that's where you need to decide. I have yet to find a stock CDP (south of $5k) that can compete with a modded player. YMMV

Unfortunately the modifications mentioned above remove the video and surround sound capabilities of the player. Anyone know of sound modifications that can be made without having to sacrifice the video or surround sound aspects of the player?

To the best of my knowledge Underwood doesn't remove anything upon modification.....what exactly are you referring to?

sorry, I was referring to the mods. done by alphifi, not underowood. Has anyone with a Denon DVD 2900 had these mods. done by underwood? If so, did they make a difference. I recently got a bonus from work of $2500 and am looking to spend some on audio upgrades. Just wondering if this might be a good way to go.
