I just can't believe some of the posts over there.

1. Your favorite top 10 tuners of all time. (Top 10!!! Not 'favorite' tuner but top 10! Sheesh! In order to have a top 10 you'd technically have to had owned at least 10 different tuners, but then how could all of them be in the top 10?)

2. Top 10 DD turntables of all time. (Same freakin' thing! I mean how many tuners and turntables does one own in a lifetime to have a freakin' top 10? )

3. Your budget - $20K- best system for a small room. (20K is budget!!! Geez, must be rough)

4. Best redbook CD playback system for $30K (starts out "I have $30k to spend on a stereo system to play back redbook CDs......I do need to be able to go out and buy this system so all components must be NEW and readily available for purchase. " )
Oh yeah? Well kiss my ass!

5. Budget DC Player (LOL! This guy made a slight typo. The first response was "Do you mean battery operated?" :D )

6. What was your greatest epiphany? ( epiphany  WTF is an epiphany? I'd like to see someone ask that here.)

7. Who is the best maracas player of all time?  :D (Gee, let me think...who would it be? )

8. I need a warm sounding power cord. (Great...you spent $20K on your system and it sucks so let's fix it with a freakin' power cord? You want a warm power cord? Put it in the freakin' microwave))

9. Need clean and thin sounding interconnect. (Great...you spent $20K on your system and it sucks so let's fix it with a freakin' thin sounding interconnect? )

I don't know. Maybe it's just me

LMFAO!!!

Thats too funny!

I think there should be a law on the books that if somebody wants a warm sounding audio cable, their $20,000 should be taken away from them......and given to the more deserving Club Polk members!

The thing I find most funny about spending $30K on a CD playback system is that the inventors of the CD format (Sony and JVC) said that they never intended for CD to be a high-resolution/high fidelity recording medium. They were just looking to replace the cassette tape with something a little more durable and convenient.;)

Oh yeah.....show me where they mention 'epiphany'

polkaudio has 'The Good Babe thread'

Audiogon has 'What was your greatest epiphany' and 'List your top 10 $20,000 CD players' :D

Lots of good people, gear and info on Audiogon. If it's not your cup of tea, don't go there.

It's a great place to get gear, that's about the only praise I can give it. The only reason I read the posts while I'm there is because it's such great entertainment. I suppose you consider all of those posts normal? Maybe one was yours? Certainly not the 'epiphany' thread!

6. What was your greatest epiphany? ( epiphany WTF is an epiphany? I'd like to see someone ask that here.)

Do you actually not know what an epiphany IS, or are you just saying it's a stupid question? Cuz I think it's KINDA valid in an audio forum, for example, the first time you listened to a GOOD system and realized that Bose isn't REALLY as good as their advertisers have been telling you.... THAT'S kind of an epiphany... kind of a sudden realization....

I think the rest of those topics are pretty ridiculous if you're not a Millionaire... but the epiphany one seems valid to me.

I'd much rather deal with people on Audiogon as far as buying / selling stuff than eBay. Much more audio knowledge and I've never had a problem.

It is a good place to find great deals on stuff when the flea market is hurting over here. Polk flea market still rules though if you are in the right place at the right time.

Some of those Audiogon posts are pretty out there.

I gotta hand it to the douches at the head-fi headphone forum. I find its by far a much younger, and loser-y group. The post some of THE dumbest threads ever.

For example:

Most painful trauma accident
Best roadside snack
Why tube amps will ALWAYS be VASTLY superior to ss amps (the poster compares some crappy tube amp to Yammies and Denon at best)
Do you have the best sound in the world?

WTF? Stupid assed idiots.

pjdami ,

agreed...
a lot of cool stuff over there..

I found my Parasound, and AH! over there...
finally got lucky on something that matters

BTW...my greatest epiphany was realizing that I haven`t had one yet..!!

Do you actually not know what an epiphany IS, or are you just saying it's a stupid question?

I did not know what it meant but I looked it up of course. It's not that it's a stupid question, but it could have been worded differently for an audio forum. This isn't Jeopardy's Tournament of Champions, fer cryin' out loud. I mean, how many people actually know what it means? My IQ's around 135 and I didn't know what it meant  I found it an awfully funny word to use in an audio forum. I just find the flaunting of intellect, cash flow and snobbery over there a little humorous. I know it's not everyone there but it's a buttload anyway. (see....buttload.....now that's a word you'd expect to find in an audio forum)
I will also admit my sense of humor is rather bizarre :D

BTW, I agree that it's one of the BEST places to find equipment. I got my Musical Fidelity A3 integrated there as well as a CD player for my second system, a Pioneer Elite AVR and a couple pair of Audioquest interconnects ... all great deals.

I knew what it meant, and its a pretty stupid subject for an audio forum.

1) Thats something you share with people close and personal to you
2) People on the internet that have never met you don't care
3) It's probably not that earth-shattering of an epiphany to begin with

I woke up on the wrong side of the bed today.

As they are all audio related topics, yep seem pretty normal to me. No, none of those are mine, but I do have more than a few there. 20k budget....so what, there are folks who spend that kind of money and much more. Warm power cord, clean and thin sounding interconnect, yep cables do make a difference. Top ten tunas, yep I can think of a few people here who would be able to answer that, etc, etc.

If you find all that entertaining, that's fine, but I fail to see the need to ridicule the site or the topics. After all, they are all audio related.

BTW, my greatest epiphany related to audio has to be tubes. Once you hear them in a set up there is no going back.

dragon1952
03-26-2005, 01:42 PM
So, what was your greatest epiphany?

Gee, let's see now.....there's just been so many. And there's just so many neanings of the word.

a. A Christian feast celebrating the manifestation of the divine nature of Jesus to the Gentiles as represented by the Magi.
(I went to a church potluck once. Does that count? )

b. January 6, on which this feast is traditionally observed.
( I think I nailed my best friends sister once on Jan 6th....around 1969 or so?)

c. A revelatory manifestation of a divine being.
(Hmmm.....that's a tough one. I guess it would have to have been that Virgin Mary on the 10 yr old grilled cheese sandwich that was on Ebay recently)

d. A sudden manifestation of the essence or meaning of something.
(My Dad told me to be home at 10PM one time and when I wasn't he whooped my ass. I then inexplicably and suddenly realized the meaning of "Be home at 10")

e. A comprehension or perception of reality by means of a sudden intuitive realization: “I experienced an epiphany, a spiritual flash that would change the way I viewed myself”
(see answer 'd')

If you find all that entertaining, that's fine, but I fail to see the need to ridicule the site or the topics. After all, they are all audio related.

Gee 'Nut, I am so sorry you don't appreciate my style of sarcasm and humor. Since you're the one I try to impress the most here that is a huge blow to my ego

In a way that could be considered an epiphany I suppose. However it may just be classified as a logical deduction based on the evidence provided. I'm not sure that would qualify , but maybe.

That's a ridiculous statement.....it is at best, a typical generalization, but that's just my opinion.

Add that to the "qoute" section if you want....but IMO it's a falsehood. It's insulting to me personally.

Alot of people, perhaps they are "audiophiles", have experience with gear, yet do not own it. Do you think I've owned everything I comment upon? No, of course not, if you need an answer....but I've heard the gear enough and read enough to make my own comments upon the subject. I REALLY try not to steer people to gear, seriously, but if I believe in it, then it simply falls back into.....my opinion.

I'm personally a worker bee, and I save up, slave, donate, sell, swap and move gear to get gear. If there is a silver spoon in my mouth, I have yet to find it.

As a side note, my wife HATES audio...yet I survive.

it is at best, a typical generalization,

That's probably what it was meant to be. In fact it may be a little tongue in cheek. Kinda like many of my posts. Unfortunately that type of thing is hard to convey using this medium of expression.
BTW, up rather late tonite, eh? :D

I know all to well the problem of typed speech, but that's just the way it goes....if they don't get it, then they just don't get it. I don't have the time to talk semantics about my own speech when it comes to the internet.

I'm an audiophile, audio snob, audio enthusiast, audio reject....whatever one wants to call me is fine by me.....I simply love audio.

Drag- Up late?....ugh, if you only knew how little I sleep. :)

it was a joke , bro...

I myself was born with a spork in my mouth , not a silver spoon..!

I never ment to imply that you, or anybody else in the forum was anything other than a more informed audio nut than myself.....

I just found it humourous...like the quote that the kid took out of context, and is using in his sig...

I did not wish to insult you , my friend...
anybody with half a salt knows you can`t generalize , or catigorize, or steroetype people....

I read it as sarcastic....not realistic
my bad....

but I have interacted with people on the gon that do act and feel that way...

The guy I got my AH! CDP from cut my visit short because I wasn`t in his "league", and seemed much more excited than he was about his gear.....

I`m late for work...have a good day bro......

Michael - I was just commenting on your post, I'm not offended at all. I get it :)

I know what you guys mean, and certainly have met and engaged in conversations with people that are really off this planet when it comes to audio.

I guess it was moreso me clarifying my position, that's all.
