I was thinking about something. Except for the boom boxes and the cars, EVERY speaker I have bought since 1989 has been a Polk. I even have new computers with Polk speakers (HP). The cars have the Infinity systems in them. HOWEVER, if Polk made a factory system, I would almost consider buying the car for the speakers. Sooo, here's the poll. If a manufacturer offered a Polk speaker option:

I DON'T LIKE YOU!
Actually, just kidding! But tell me what movie that's from and I'll give you a cookie if I see you at the next Club Polk Polk Audio HQ tour!
Where is Kim anyway? Has he forsaken the 12V realm in favor of ...*GASP*...work?!
He's a-hole deep in extra work. He not only does CS, but he helps with a lot of the artwork and writing in the manuals for our products.

Yeah, do any of us really care what OEM system is in a car? We're just gonna rip it out as soon as we can! :D

Yup! That's what makes this fun, the installing! I'd prefer to buy a car with no stereo and start 100% from scratch.

It wouldn't make a difference for me. Infact, I would probably be skeptical because many "premium" audio systems use the company's cheapest parts and whatnot. I was amazed when I pulled appart the jbl system in my ford taurus to find out that the cones were all paper. The bose system in my nissan maxima has the name bose written all over it, yet has yet to hold a candle to the system (listed below) that replaced it. Unless if it is a different case like with Lexus and Mark Levinson, the system in my parents LS430 is absolutely amazing.

I wonder if the Rockford Fosgate system in the Nissans is the same way? I would think not as RF is a little more respectable than Infinity and Bose. I would think they would put decent gear in there if its gonna carry their name.

I test drove a Sentra Spec-R (with the 6 speed and RF system) and I wan't impressed.
At the time I was driving a tercle and my system was:
polk ex502a coaxials running off my deck
Kenwood KDC 112 (as entry level as you can get - (19wrms 45peak)
Pioneer TS-W302F running off a (I am ashamed of this) Legacy amp which I tested to produce 200wrms.
But still, this meager system in my tercel killed the RF system in the sentra. The RF sub in the trunk was not a typical production sub (I didn't recognize the cone design). I didn't see the front speakers, but since my $80 polks way out performed them without an amp, I guess they skimped on them too.

Damn that sucks.
The RF system in the Frontiers and Xterras is supposed to be pretty bad with like 12 speakers or something. I knew it wouldnt be a competition level system but at least something to live up to the legendary RF name!
I wonder how much input reputable companies like RF and Infinity actually have in these OEM systems or if theyre just told "we need X amount of your cheapest speakers and we'll do the rest".

12 speakers  those numbers consider a mid and a tweeter 2 speakers.
The sentra had "7 speakers" 2 mids up front, 2 tweeters, 2 full range in the back and one 2ub. My coaxials out-performed those "components"
But the Sentra is the cheapest Nissan. They might take their trucks more seriously.

I hope so for RF's sake.

I've never gotten the idea RF is any good.......it seems they used to be....but I've never heard that their current stuff is any good.....

Oh yeah, its quite good. Their speakers arent all that great but their subs are pretty good and their amps are excellent.
I wouldnt rank them as high as MTX but Id say theyre as good as Kicker.

Well, I don't think of Kicker as being any good, either.....:p :p

Well you should. Kicker makes very good stuff. Like MTX and RF their speakers are ho-hum although their new SS line is pretty good just not $800 good.
Their subs are good and their L5 and L7 subs are awesome!!
Their amps are also very good. Not MTX but as good as RF.

kickers high end amp line is very good, id easily put them above anything MTX has to offer...MTX doesnt have anything to match RF's new Power line...but they dont have anything in that price level. id put them on par with RF's 99-02 stuff, RF's 03 stuff sucked, but anything before 99 id go with RF.
and i dont think RF is that bad

Kickers high end amps aint that special. The only thing cool about them is the built in signal processing. Other than that theyre not that much different than the KX line.
And they dont want none of MTX either. MTX is built much more solid and with much heavier duty components and power supplies and put out more power with cleaner distortion levels and more headroom. MTX are some of the finest amps out there.

It wouldn't affect my decision to buy a vehicle. Reason being is that I prefer to use components that are of my own standards and desires. This enables me to fine tune the sound to what sounds good to me. Plus, building one's own system is something to look forward to doing. Now, perhaps if they installed Momo's as well as similar quality components I may or may not give to such consideration. However, it would only be a matter of time before I'd have to do things myself the way I want them done.

... i would never endorse a good audio company putting a factory system into a car... why?
look at alpine... they do those bmw or lexus or whatever the hell they do... and they SUCK.
bose? nice home audio... they're not a "loudspeaker" company like polk but they're some of the pioneers in surround sound and getting a lot out of a little box... anyway - CRAP car systems (legendarily crap).
Fact is - if you're going to do a 'premium' factory system - it's going to be paper cones, with crappy low power amps - and way over priced and wholly proprietary hookups... which serves 99% of us people who give a damn about audio ZIPPPPP.
Dont' become a jack of all trades - do what you do - and do it well... wanted to do amps? ok -- I'm not complaining - they're nice amps - btu don't start doing headunits and etc etc etc.... cuz then you'll be a corporate whore like rockford...
Polk Audio - the SPEAKER specialists... and they do it so well...
I'd like to see car mfg's go to a standard system so that aftermarket guys could have an easier time.... for example ---- all cars have either a 5.25 / 6.5 / or 6 x 9 in front --- same for rear.... then when you are a 3rd party company like polk you can dump all your resources into making 3 sizes of speaker (plus component sets) instead of making like 7 sizes. auto company's suck in that regard.

Well put Dodge,
I thought it was rather funny when I noticed that my 04 nissan had come with 2 ohm speakers in the door and 3. something ohm tweeters in the pillars. I guess it was their way of trying to impress people by making a OEM CD/radio play louder without having to add an additional amp.

I'm not so sure about the 'nice' and 'home audio' being put together, the only thing they innovated was the art of the markup.
As for standard sizes, the legislation for that would most likely involve more cost and time then it is worth, might as well just stick with mods...
