I am looking to upgrade my dvd player. I am currently using the jvc xv-n410b slim line player. My price range in under 300 dollars. I know that is not a lot of money but i think i could do a lot better in that range than what i am using now. The picture with this player is decent but the sound is not that good. I guess you shouldnt expect that much when you only spend 100 dollars on a player. any way any ideas thoughts, or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

if its the sound you have a problem with, get new speakers or an amp to power them and worry about the dvd player later.

Hows is the dvd connected ?

Maybe a higher-end cable is in order to improve the sound .

I should have been a little bit to the point of what i was trying to say. I am not saying that the sound i have now with this player is all that bad. What i was really asking if a higher end player in my original price range would improve the sound to any noticable diffrence. In other words does the quality of the dvd player play a large role in the diffrence in sound in the price range of 100-300 dollars. As for my speakers and reciever i am more than sastified with the both of them.l

For H.T. I think a new DVD player in the $100 & $300 would not improve your sound much unless you upgrade your speakers. Since you are happy with your speakers, you probably should stick with your CD player. For red book CD's, I would be willing to bet that a $300 DVD player will give you noticeable sound improvement, though it still could not beat a separate CD player.

It sounds to me like most of you agree that it wouldnt make much sense to upgrade to dvd player with the current speakers and amp. I guess i will just have to wait untill the near future to revamp from top to bottom. Thanks to all of you who replied with sound advice.

yup, the dvd player isn't going to make a huge difference, if it makes a difference at all. get an amp or new speakers, that will give you the most noticeable difference.

I moved to a HTPC and I have a Denon DVD-1600 that is not being used. I'd have to find out what it is worth but certainly it would go for under $300 shipped to your door. Don't know about sound but it made a huge improvement in picture over the Sony I was using before it. Has Faroudja chip.

Let me know if you're interested and we'll figure out a fair price for it.

Forgot to mention, it plays DVD-A (multichannel music) as well as regular DVD's and CD's. No SACD (another multichannel format) playback. Didn't see any for sale on E-bay so maybe someone could suggest a fair price for it?
