I just bought a pair of Polk Audio R15 speakers at Fry's for $50. I'd say its a pretty good deal. The sound is good enough for me right now. I also bought some monster wire.

Now I need to find out what kind of reciever is best for me. I am currently using a Sony receiver, STR-D915; it is several years old. The latest codec on it is Dolby Digital Pro Logic. I think it is from the "pre-sub" age as it doesn't have a n exclusive output for a sub.

Before that, I used an OLD Sherwood RA-1140. I'm not sure how old it is but I would like to find out. Would it work as a "vintage" receiver?

A also own a pair of JBL ProPerformer speakers and a pair of huge 3-way Technics speakers.

Basically, I want to find out about the value of my equipment.

Please reply. Thanks.

Look on ebay and see what people are getting on average.

the important question is, what are you using the system for, music? home theater?.

if 2 channel music is what your looking for, try that old sherwood reciever with just the R15's. while they might not be as loud as the Technics (i had a pair of those when i was your age), they will sound much better, clearer, accurate. Use the sherwood to switch between the 2 speakers and listen for the differences between the 2 sounds. it'll be a good way to learn what you like and dislike, hence making this hobby much more fun for you in the future.

have fun :)
