I have had these LS70's for 12 years or so. I finally have a space for a home theater, and plan to use them as the main speakers. I want to match them with a center, and surround speakers for a 7.1 setup. What do you guys recommend? I'm not opposed to shopping ebay if the best matches are not a current offering.

If I could talk my dad out of his SDA's I would put them up front, but alas, he's smarter than that, not to mention in love with them.

Thanks!

youneed to look for the CS 350 center channel

its the one with the 1" tweeter and four 5 1/4" drivers

it would be a perfect timbre match to the old LS series.

i have the LS90's and they perform very well in home theater applications.

might want to jump on that offer, you dont see these around that often, especially in good shape.
that center will be a perfect timbre match for your 70's. and its a kick *ss center in its own right.

I'll give em a hard look!

I specifically saved a 16x14 room for my media/listening room. These LS70's have worked so well for me over the years, they deserve to be the mains in my new setup. Now all I need to do is find a good match for surround and effect speakers. Not to mention a big screen!

Thanks!

I see Polk lists the CS400i as a possible match for the LS 70's. It looks like a somewhat outdated.

I wonder if the current crop of center's would even come close to matching?

if it were me, i'd hold out for a CS 350. its a perfect timbre match, which is something you really want to try to attain. a timre matched front soundstage does wonders for home theater.

age of a speaker is really not important. i have speakers that are 20-30 years old that i like better than ost new ones at 4X the price. dont let age of the speaker affect your decision.

Sounds like a good idea. I have been obsessing about speakers all weekend. I really want to have an awesome sound system. I can pick up another pair of LS 70's locally and a pair of LS 90's on ebay. I have been wondering if having 6 large speakers (not to mention the CS350) would sound better than a room full of smaller surrounds.

Any thoughts?

i can vouch for the ls90's I love mine. If you like the 70's, your probably going to love the 90's. If your going to go that route, get the 90's for mains, snag a cs350 for the center, and use the LS70's for the surrounds. If going 7.1, i dont know if another pair of LS70's would be worth it though.

wish i had more personal experience with the difference between the 70 and the 90, but i never heard the 70.

either way, with all of that LS series across the board, you are going to have a very respectable home theater system speakerwise. no doubt about it.

I used to own the 70's before the 90's (long story). The 70's definitely do rock. But the 90's go much deeper than the 70's. You will definitely enjoy the fuller sound from the 90's. I couldn't imagine sitting in a room with 2 90's+cs350+2 70's for surround. Son, you'll be deaf in 2 days with the DB's output from that setup. When can I come over for a demo?

Other options on the surrounds are the fx1000 (very rare) or fx500.
