These are local to me (sort of) and I was thinking about picking them up. I've never listened to a pair of these. How do they sound - what are their major sound characteristics?

Didn't these come with stands? Are these the 10, 10A, 10B, or 10 series 2...or can we tell from looking at the pics? I assume these are just the 10, based on the serial number, but I thought those came with the sl2000 tweeter, auction says sl2500, though could have been updated.

EDIT: Whoops...looks like I got that wrong. Just found on the Polk site that the 10s came with the sl2500...

I've never listened to anything in the Monitor line. Are these a good deal if I can snag them for less than $150 or so?

Thanks for the info guys. I really need to get my learnin' on with all the old-school Polk lines :o

From personal experience at $150 or less and in what appears to be great shape no question---get them.
My first Polks were and still are my favorite pair (Mon 10's) I still listen to them more often than the SDA2's. Others on the site can ID this set but 10's are definitely the "bed rock" model in the lineage.

I love my monitor 7's. Very good "presence"

Polkmaniac- Depending on what run of the Monitor 10's they are, you could have the SL1000, SL2000, or SL2500 (in that order, oldest to newest).

The tweeters in those speakers are NOT the SL2500.

SL2000.

The guy also has a pair of monitor 5...I assume the 10 are a better sounding speaker?

I know the SL2000 has that nasty frequency spike, but I could change that later on down the road I guess...

Does anyone know if these came with stands?

Optional Stands.

Does anyone have the diagram for those stands, so I could build my own? I'll try contacting Ken in the morning, maybe Polk still has the drawings laying around...

If you get ahold of the stand dimensions, let me know. My next project is going to be building a pair for my 10's. They'd sound SO much better with them.

edit- *smack* (see above :D)

I did a search on "monitor stands" and somehow didn't see that thread towards the bottom of the page, thanks for pointing it out Mark, I'll take a look.

missed em...

I didn't want to go over $125 but I should have bid a bit more, just have too much going on right now with the new house and all...I was naive to think I'd get these for less than $150...

Wow, what a let down. Oh well, maybe next time.

Just joined the forum, but coincidentally I have a pair of these Monitor 10Bs and they are really great sounding speakers. When I think how much I paid for a stinking Bose 5.1 system, I think $150 for a pair of these babies is a steal.

Good luck,

Greg

There are several pairs - some with stands included - on the bay right now.

Welcome to the club. Stick around. enjoy, have a cold one on me.

I'm just curious, but what lead you to go with Bose 5.1? Was it their sound, price, size, etc. thanks, al

:( :( :( Patience... patience... From the read of that ad only thing that would have gotten me over $100 would be local P/U...

Better will come along...

Danger,

What led me to go with Bose was a combination of poor research and an aesthetically driven female.

They were actually ok for the relatively small room I originally used for movies, but wholly inadequate for the theater I'm building now. I really didn't like them at all for music, either. The mids were non-existent and the bass was gimmicky.

Gonna sell them on eBay, tho, so don't quote me on that!
