Quick question regarding my deck?

The box from my mosfet pioneer deck is showing me that it is giving 50watts X 4 but according to neomagus00, it is only giving out 12 watts to the speakers. Is this true?? and Why??????

Is this true?? and Why?????? both are true. The 50x4 is given in peak voltage, which is useless. RMS voltage is the only number that is meaningful. 12-15 volts RMS per channel is probably right on. Don't expect much more than that.

A wise man once said, "That head unit is 50x4 only if lightning strikes it".

Think about it. Look at the size of the head unit and figure that less than half of it is the amp. Now go to Circuit City and look at the size of a REAL 50x4 amp. Its about 4 times bigger than the entire head unit. Something that small cant put out that much juice.

Neo is right. Youre lucky if youre getting 12x4.

but yeah, hu's will only put out low to mid teens in wattage, any aftermarket speaker of decent quality will need a seperate amp to sound its best. When buying a HU if you want good sound quality pay more attention to the voltage of the pre-outs than the wattage of the factory amp. Many competitors bypass having to worry about it at all buy using a 'dry-deck' which is a head unit that comes w/o a built in amp.
