Hi all,
I've got an opportunity to pick up a new Denon DVD-910 for $129 and don't have a lot of time to do a lot of research before this deal goes away...
Does anyone have any experience with this player? I'm specifically interested in:
- Macroblocking
- CUE error (chroma bug)
- Layer transition time
- Menu navigation time
Thanks guys!!

I can't honestly say that I've had any experience w/ that unit per se, but a lot of experience with the 1710 and 1910.
The menu lag time isn't too bad, but w/ all Denon's there is a slower response than w/ other players. For instance, if you load a CD and try to move forward a few tracks, it takes a few seconds. You can press all you want, but until that damn thing is ready, you can't skip tracks.
Also, be aware, the scalers used in the lower end models are crappy. Even in the 1910 when it says Faroudja, the actual chip has certain parts that can be activated or not to create a better image. Faroudja mass markets one chip, but only activates certain parts for certain players based on the quality. So a 1910 w/ DCDi will not yield anywhere near the image quality of a 2910, which most mags have said has the best image available under $3k. It costs $680 by the way.

Now that is fantastic information that you just cant get from a manual...that helps alot. Even though this would be a "hold over" player until the HD-DVD technology is available, this gives me alot more to think about. I've got a Samsung player that I'm not unhappy with, but since I just got the Denon AVR-3805 I was looking for an inexpensive matching Denon player. Might just hold off...
Thanks!!

I've had the Denon 910 for about a year now. Absolutely no complaints as far as PQ or HT SQ. I don't use if for CD playback, so I have no idea how it does in that regard. I have compared it to some other more expensive DVD players, and until you get into the $600+ range, I don't see a difference. I paid $179 for mine and have no regrets. I also have a NAD T532 which is supposed to be a pretty good DVD player, and the Denon 910 has a sharper picture.

The 910 is a great DVD player. One of the few with no chroma bug. No complaints here. It will outperform many dvd players costing much more.

Well its from an authorized dealer w return policy - I guess the thing to do is give it a try and annoy my wife by spending countless hours switching between it and my old one :D

I've owned one for a while now also. It's a great player, and CD playback is excellent as well.
Check out the Secrets benchmark tests, it ranks up there with players costing many times more...
