My wife blew my fronts the other day. I decide to buy the Monitor 70's. Did I make the right choice? Will they work well with what I have? All replies good or bad welcome.

Welcome to the Polk forum.

What speakers did you have before?

If you had anything from the previous RTi series, then they may still be worth salvaging(replacement drivers, etc).

The Rt series is a step above the new Monitor series, so I guess it is up to you as to whether you like them or not.

I personally haven't spent much time with the new Monitors, so let us know how they sound with the your system.

The speakers that are blown are RT1000I

if i were you. i'd look into getting them fixed.. worth it in my opinion.

probably less expensive.. and might sound better than the monitor 70's. certainly better bass.. since the RT1000i's have build in powered subs.

Almost ashamed to say that crossed my mind as well....

Agree on exploring repair as a first option. What blew? How many drivers are gone?

As for the new Mon series, I liked the 50's a bit over the 70's. They just took a little more persuading (about 2 dB) to match SPL levels and the bass seemed tighter. Plus with twin Velo subs, you shouldn't need a great deal of bass.

As for them matching what you have... center may be problematic, but surrounds are a non-issue unless you are into 5 ch SACD music.

Well it looks like A dealer here in town has the parts. I should be able to pick up the new drivers tomorrow. But know I am thinking about using the RT110I's for surrounds to replace my RT25 I's. What do you think?

I'd fix the RT1000i and keep your system as is based on what you already have. Putting anything in the Monitor line up front with the CSi40 and moving the RTi to the back would be a mistake IMO.

You have a great system as it is...I wouldn't go messing with it...that's just me though...

If you like the Monitor sound better, then an upgrade is worth it, but you'll need to upgrade the center also...or at least I would...

Call Helen tomorrow, and you might have them by end of the week.

I was not aware of the benefits through CP. I will check it out. Thankyou for all your replies. But if I did keep the montiors up front what brand of Polk would you recomend for a center?

Yup... it pays to Polk...

For your center, it's best to try to match the tri-lam tweeters in your 1000i's...

Centers with tri-lams include the CS400i, CS400, CS350LS. Any of these would have to be found on the used market, e.g., ebay.

400i's are seen most often now. Can be had in the $250 to $300 range.

A 350 was floating around here in the Flea Market recently. May still be available.
