okay think it's time to upgrade the subs. what do you guys recommend for a decent sub in the $200-$300. I haven't been keeping track of which brands are good the past few years so bare with me.

ebay frightens and confuses me...
that is an excellent sub, but if you can get it somewhere other than ebay, that is a much better option. here (http://www.andrew.cmu.edu/user/dhuston/audioindex.html) is some info that might help you out - a list of online retailers and manufacturers. search around a bit, if you can find polk stuff, go for it.

btw, we're assuming that 200-300 is for the sub only, not the amp, too

BTW i'm in canada too. looked at some image dynamics, how do they fair?

image dynamics is the shiz nit. the sub you listed is also pretty good. for that price, its a steal. my only complaint is they dont handle their rated power. i would put 450watts continuous to them and not a watt more.

okay i was looking at the image dynamics ( These factory renewed (http://www.cardomain.com/item/IDSID12V3D4B) )
Some alpine Type r or type s (i heard type s's suck), or mtx. Hows phoenix gold, kicker? Basically i'm looking for the best bang for the buck and i think the image dynamics might be the ones.

My favorite brands of subs are:

Polk Audio
MTX
JL Audio
Diamond Audio
Image Dynamics

Any of these will be great.

i know he likes the polk 2124 and image dynamics IDQ. the JL w3v2 is a decent offering. the alpine type r is a more spl-oriented sub.

all good products.

no biggie, there's a ton to choose from. i'd pick any of the others mentioned over that kicker, personally.

I've had several Kicker subs over the years and they have all performed well. They make good subs.

I am currently looking at a 12" sub from www.soundsplinter.com. It is one of their RL-p12's. For the $235 dollars, you will get a great amount of performance. I will be running it with an Alpine MRD-M501 that is in my closet right now. The only decision left is which car it will go into, my wife's car, or mine :) . The decision will be hers.

well then let me throw in my suggestion to beat them all :) At least check out and read the rave reviews on the new Ascendant Audio Avalanche series. Tons of owners at soundillusions.net. For the performance you get, the price can't be beat!

Not at all :). I am just trying to let people know that ask about subs. I think that they are a great value. I was kind of skeptical about them at first and then I gave them a shot. I was actually thinking about a few other companies that were a lot more expensive at first. I think this sub will hang with those subs that cost a lot more. Just trying to save you guys some cash :).
