LSi + Denon

Dear Friends,

I need to change the amp for my new LSi
speakers. What do you think about the Denon AVR-3805?

Welcome to the club! Here are some threads for you to read. If you want more just do a search on Denon & LSI. You will be reading for days, but in the end you will be able to make an informed decision.

FYI The Denon is a reciever not a separate amplifier. However you can hook up a separate amp to the Denon to give you the power you will need to drive your LSI's to their full potential.

The 3805 can drive the LSi's at lower levels but is not reccomended. The receiver is rated at 6ohm & above. The LSi are 4ohm rated. If driving the speakers at louder levels you amy clip the receiver or it may run real warm. the better would be either a receiver like Rotel, B&K, sunfire & a few other that can drive 4 ohm well. Other than that a seperate amp would be the other way to go!

I run my 3805 with my 4 ohm rt12c" and it has not been any problem I usually never listen at low volumes either.

The 3805 is rated down to 6 ohm. We are a dealer for Denon & if Im not mistaken there is a lable or sticker on the back near the binding post for speakers that state speaker impedance 6 ohm min - 14 or 16 ohm. If you are driving LSi's you should use a receiver or amp rated for the speakers. I also know that first hand, Upon upgrading to LSi's, I ended up purchaseing a Rotel receiver that had enough power to drive the speakers. AI didnt want to blow a driver while playing the system loud due to not enough power. Remember speakers usually blow beacuse your amp dosnt have enough power to drive them correctly. With my old receiver the LSiS also just didnt sound good with more power they woke up!

Well I guess i should start looking for a good 2 channel amp to run my fronts. Anyone have one for a good price willing to ship to canada??

A good two channel amp will be a good upgrade! We have recently added a 2ch amp to our system, run the front mains off the amp & the center & surrounds off the Rotel receiver. I have tried SS amps & they sounded very good but once I tried a tube amp my search was over for now. We are using a BAT VK-60 to drive the 15's. I think I will need more time and more "testing sessions" for check the correct one. The second option after de Denon is the Rotel. Will see... and will check...

I just bought the 3805 and the LSi series and have had no heat or any other issues so far (5 days lol). I did find in the owner's manual for the Denon that it is rated (under dynamic power) 210W at 4 ohms x 2 channel and 240w x 2 (2 ohms). Just thought I'd mention it.

I drive an in-wall/ceiling surround system with a 3805. You can get by with LSi7's OK, but once you start getting into LSi9's, you need some torque to drive them. I have a 200 watt amp on my R & L front LC265i's (think LSi9's) and it definitely makes a difference. Audition some music with deep bass and you'll know why. I've used a tune off Toni Braxton's Secrets CD, Your Makin Me high, to show folks the difference between mud and tight drums.
