what do you guys think will sound the best,

1. side surround speakers (fxi5) mounted on speaker stands directly to the right and left of the seating area.

2. using omnimounts to mount the speakers in the ceiling, the speakers will be approximately 8 ft off the ground. this is also to the right and left of the seating area.

what is your choice and why

I just mounted my f/x1000's to the ceiling this weekend and they aim down at the sweet spot. They sound alot better than they did up on the wall overhead facing each other.
Now they are on a vaulted ceiling and are about 8' above and behind our heads.
i have only had time for 1 movie and 1 SACD but I think I will be able to tweek it to perfection.
If not I will be trying the RT55's in their place. (once I find a pair for sale).

omnimounts- no question about it.

When you go into a theater and see the array of side and rear surrounds flanking the audience- they're closer to the ceiling then they are to the floor.

i have fx300i's for sides and rears and mount all of them high up on the wall- about 7.5 feet high.
Mount them, don't place them on stands.

hope this helps- good luck
