A few months ago I posted a thread re: static caused by my Groove Tubes on my integrated amp. Every now and then I get static for the first two seconds upon putting in a CD. Some CDs are more prone to it than others. Now it seems to be happening more often. At first, I thought there was a problem with my Groove Tubes. But after doing some experimenting, I believe the cause of the problem is my tube CD player -- a Chinese made player not available here in the US. Just not sure what aspect of the player is causing the problem.

The player has a single tube, but I don't think it's the tube, per se, because I've changed out the tube and the problem persists. I purchased the unit brand new about eight months ago and the issue has been there from the beginning. It's not a big problem, just a minor annoyance.

How can I diagnose the problem and what can I do to remedy the situation?

static when the disk goes in, or when you press play?
Could be a loose interconnecting ribbon cable or a cold solder joint. A good visual inspection of the unit may yield and answer.
Tapping the chassis lightly with something insulated or touching some of the ribbon cables while powered up may also pinpoint the trouble. Otherwise, it could be electronic in nature, and much harder to find. Is it still under warranty? If so, don't fool with it-send it in now, or the problem will get worse the day after it expires!

Could be a faulty contact.

Time to touch some cable connections lightly while its playing to see if it can be re-created. After that, it gets hard. It could also be normal for the player. Chinese crap has a lot of poor designs/ QC issues. Now would be a good time to start looking for a good tech. There is little you can do without an o scope and some knowledge of the equipment. Getting a schematic for this unit could be a real chore.

Update: to my surprise, the static was not being caused by the tubes or the CD player. Since I upgraded the crossovers in my speakers, I have not heard any static at all.

Cool.
