Hi,

I have a 2 front satellite speaker, 2 rear stat and 1 center channel and a sub-woofer connected to a Sony amplifier. We rarely ever play them. On night we decided to enjoy the music and turned them up a bit. About 30 minutes later, the sound suddenly went completely and the amplifier was flashing protection.

Do you have any idea what could be wrong? Please help, I paid too much for these for them to go that easily....

Paul

I had a similar problem with my sony and polk speakers.
I do not know why either, I replaced the sony.
I think it may have been to small of speaker wires but I never found out for sure.
Good luck.

my guess is it's the sony, can you borrow a receiver from some one else to see if your polks still work, or another set of speakers to see if your sony still works and if it will do the same with the 2 set of speakers?

Could it be an impedance problem?

If those speakers are less than 8 ohm then with 2 pair you will have a total impedance of less than 4 ohm which is generally the minimum. You won't notice any problems at low volume but at high volume you will blow your amp or kick in the overload protection circutry.

I learned this the hard way back when there wasn't overload protection. :-(
