I am looking to buy a 2 or 3 channel amp for a friend of mine and must say I am lost when it comes to this arena. Please look out for me if any of you guys see a good deal on a respectable piece of gear. Around 200 watts per channel @ 8 ohms will fit the bill for this guy. I believe his goal is to make his ears actually bleed! I hear B@K makes solid neutral amps, but have not found a 200.2 yet. Any suggestions are welcomed. Looking to spend around $500.

Thanks again,

Brent

Try the Adcom 555, I have two (modded) and they seem to drive my system with little effort while improving the overall "sonic" ability of my polks,IMHO:)

So many choices, which is better? What are the major differences between them? ie B&K sounds more tube like

Rotel
B&K
NAD
Adcom
Bryston
Sunfire
Acurus
Parasound

Just looking to narrow down the field before trying things out.

I think all of them are top notch. Just go to your nearest Audio store and see what they have to offer. Hopefully, they will have a couple or more from the list that you can listen to. Then buy the most amp that you can afford!

Happy shopping!:D

You'll just have to make a decision. Can't go wrong with any of those choices. Personally, I'd go the Parasound 1500A for $475.

cfrizz- that's the trouble. Most store only have 1 maybe 2 of the items listed and even fewer have my speakers. I am leaning towards the B&K

Will you need a seperate pre-amp?

We will be attempting to utilize his Denon AVR-3200 amplifier with the amp. I believe it should work using the pre-outs. Let me know of any anticipated snags with this set-up. I will assume, using a more powerful two channel amp, the mains will be a little louder than the rest of the channels powered by the denon and may require some tweeking when listening to a source utilizing more than the front mains.

I couldn't find it on Denon's site, but I believe you are trying to hook up another receiver to receiver. I'm not sure if that would work or not.

You really should get a separate power amplifier, not another receiver.

I don't think so...... Denon AVR-3200 = receiver (source material) + 2 channel amplifier using preouts (main L/R) on Denon. The amp is simply going to amplify whatever source it is fed, here, from the denon.

I don't know where you got the two receiver hook up out of all of that, but, no, that's not what I'm trying to do.

"We will be attempting to utilize his Denon AVR-3200 amplifier with the amp."

This is where I got that impression. Glad to know it was a typo on your part.;) :D

Correction: We will be attempting to utilize his Denon AVR-3200 RECEIVER with the amp!

You are clearly not Denon savvy and not very sharp with acronyms ("AVR") ...I wonder what it stands for?...., but I know you were only trying to help, so I will eat crow on this one. Sorry for the confusion.

I have a Denon myself, so I do know what AVR means. However, there have been plenty of new people who have come on the board and did not realize that receivers & amplifiers were 2 separate pieces of equipment.

Sorry if I ruffled your feathers, but as you said, I was just trying to be helpful.

See apology above. Not cool, I know. Maybe I should call my wife, she's used to taking my sh*t! Then again, maybe not...
Good morning to all.

If the guy's only goal is volume...he could spend a lot less and get away with a pro amp. not the best for sound quality, but you'll get lots of power for cheap...

No harm done. Good luck on your search for an amplifier.

LOL! I don't mean to minimalize Cathy's situation here, but with my sick sense of humor (or lack thereof) it kinda reminded me of that famous Leave it to Beaver quote.

"Ward, don't you think you were a little hard on the Beaver last night". :D

Ditto on the recommendation on the Parasound HCA-1500, have had one for 3 years and it is an outstanding amp..one can be found on the bay for about 500.....
