Had a hard day yesterday, went home, decided to listen to the big polks. I turned on the system, let it warm up a bit then went over to start the turntable. I looked down and saw I had the Bose EQ hooked up. Aw F#$K! (I hope the neighbors didn't hear me). I just realized I had the 901's hooked up.
Moral of the story: 901's don't cut it when you were expecting SDAs.

HAAHAHA... lol... :D
Well shouldn't the 901's blow away the SDA's. Just ask pretty much any novice, they'll tell you so. :D :D

I see a eBay listing in your future.

You know it's funny about those Bose 901s, back in the 70's I was looking to buy some new speakers and had been hearing alot about the 901s..so down to the audio salon I went for a listen. After auditoning the Bose I just couldn't believe my ears when a stacked pair of Advent Loudspeakers blew away the 901s! Well, needless to say I didn't buy the Bose and I came home with the Advents!

I'll put my 33 1/2 year old Smaller Advents up against a set of 901s and bet they'll still bow 'em away. In SQ that is, not in loudness.

They can get pretty exciting when you put enough watts behind them. SQ wise I can't kick them too hard but they do have their own characteristic sound.

Not trying to be a smartass, but how many watts does it take to make 901's sound good? I've heard several sets on anywhere from average to really nice gear, and I just don't get it. It's like the old saying goes "no high, no lows, must be Bose". The 501's and 601's were by far the best sounding Bose speakers I've ever heard. Just never got into the 901 sound, I guess.

They start kicking some serious ass around 350 watts. No lows? That I would have to disagree with. The highs are ok but not like the smooth polk tweeters by any means. I think a lot of this is the cheap electronics in the equalizer box. I'll have to try my 30 band AudioControl EQ's with them one day to see if that cleans up the highs.
