View Full Version : PB-10's Stacked
Anybody running a couple svs pb-10’s in a stacked configuration?
I’m thinking about selling my cs-ultra and separate PE 500 watt amp to try a front firing pair of subs stacked, wanted to get some feedback first on a stacked config. before I start trying to sell what I got.

I have not heard the PB-10, but after experiencing the 'Ultra' drivers in my two PC-Ultra's, I can not see myself swapping them for the ISD drivers.
Is there a reason you feel the urge to get two PB-10's other than just to try front firing subs? Just curious.
I don’t have the luxury of different placement options for a subwoofer, my CS resides over in corner up front., sounds great for movies but not so great for music. I’m thinking a couple 10’s would be a little more accurate, tighter, faster, blah, blah, since they fire outwards.
My first powered sub was a psw-250 and it was in that location and it sounded pretty good but it didn’t play nearly low enough.

Have you manipulated the settings in your receiver for using the sub while listening to music? You should have different sub settings for music and movies. No reason why an SVS shouldn't be able to handle music and movies equally well.

Actually it does what it’s suppose to do and does a good job, I'm just looking for a different sound and maybe an excuse to try something else.

Don't get me wrong, I love my PB 10, especially for movies. At my budget, it did all I could hope for and more.
However, now that I work at a dealer, I've seen what else is available, and the PB 10 is a little boomy for music-some of the lower bass notes last a little too long to be considered tight and fast, compared to some of the other units I've heard.
If you're happy with the CS Ultra for movies, keep that sub, I'm sure the Ultra driver is much better than the PB 10 driver. Look into a Martin Logan sub if you want something tight and accurate for music. The Dynamo is only $600, and is a great little sub. The Grotto, at $1000, is still pretty small, but goes deep and loud, and is one of the most accurate and tight subs I've heard. Not only can you feel every bass note in your chest, but you can also discern every different pitch.

Hmmm. A separate 2-channel setup, maybe??

Going from the ultra to the PB10 would be a HUGE downgrade in my opinion. Measure your ultras frequency response in your room and then you can see why it doesn't do well for music. Maybe you have a large hump or null in the response that is killing your music. Get yourself an EQ like the Behringer Feedback Destroyer and flatten that curve. That Ultra should BREEZE through most any music.

I have 2 of them stacked in my bedroom system.
I sent Dr. Spec a PM asking what would be a better choice, 2 PB10's or a single PB12-ISD/2 since the cost was about equal for either option.
He just happened to be doing his review on the PB10 at that time. First he recomended the PB12-ISD/2, but then later sent another PM and said he just changed his mind after doing the ground plane measurement on the PB10 and said to go with 2 of them instead.
