Hey all:
Just wondering if there's a hard and fast rule about the distance/degree-of-separation between the mains of an entertainment unit from the Prime Seat (PS) for movies. I looked (under "search") for separation and/or distance but couldn't seem to get a definitive answer as to what should or shouldn't be, so I thought I'd just make life really easy for myself and ask:D

Quick FYI:
Mains= 50" ctr/ctr 24" up RTi28s
Centre= middle of mains CS175i
Sub= bottom left PSW10

pic attached (if I can)

Jim Wy I must say reading your post reminds me of a news ticker at the bottom of my television screen. =)

Boy, and everybody says "bigger is better":D
Howzat...better?

PS Sitting 8'6" to 9' away.
Don't forget you're talking to a total noob here. I could chat all day about the video side of things, DLP-LCD-LCoS, the new FOTV that's supposedly in the works (fibreoptic), rainbows, SDE, putting grey comb filters in your new LCD to increase the contrast ratio (warranty voider) getting into service menu to change the Kelvin output to make your TV look "warmer" (6500k-, definite voider for sure) blah, blah etc.. I'm even playing with my HTPC (bottom right under the speaker) to try to take the default 480p movie video and use my PC to rip and then upconvert it as a block to fill in the 2/3 pulldown to make it as close as I can to true HD. So far no go tho.
What I've definitely noticed though is that audio is much more subjective than video. Video's easy. 480i<480p<720i<720p and 1:500 contrast ratio< 1:2500, therefore the numbers make it easy to see which is "better" and everyones on the same page.
Done some searching on this forum. Two (or more) ppl can be talking about the same speakers. His mellow is your flat midrange, his deep base is your boomy, and his clear high-end is your tinny. See what I mean?;)
Lots to learn... and lovin' it.

1) Is there stuff piled up in front of your speakers? Move all theat crap someplace else... Even if it's not right in front of the drivers it'll mess with your sound.

2) Ideal distance- Where you're sitting and the two speakers should form an equalateral triangle. So if it's 9 feet to the TV, the speakers should be about 10' 5" from each other.

Nope, nothing in front. Just have some air space under the left one (on some baffles) to equal the height of the right (on my PC). The wife's contribution (dog) is on my sub to the left of my left main.

So if it's 9 feet to the TV, the speakers should be about 10' 5" from each other.
Thanks, that's all I needed to know. I knew there had to be some sort of formula to tell me the distance the mains had to be apart to give that "full-bodied" quality that people strive for without getting to the point that you can tell exactly where the speakers are.

Get some real stands for the speakers. Don't forget to toe-in.

Move the sub to the front corner of the room. You'll gain spl's if you can "corner load" it. Make sure to give around 6-10 inches of breathing room from the walls.
