I think my current favorite Pop soundtrack is "Garden State." Not just for the songs, but for how well they fit into the flow and story of the film.
For orchestral:
Original Star Wars is the best.
For more recent orchestral: Gladiator.
"Fast Times at Ridgemont High"
"The Wall"

This is more of a soundtrack to my youth, "The Carl Stalling Project: Music From Warner Brothers Cartoons 1936-1958". These are the music that accompany all your favorite Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, etc. cartoons. Very amusing just listening without the visuals.....great fun!!

Let's see
For songs, or non-orchestral:
Mambo Kings
Forest Gump
Pulp Fiction
Mr Holland's Opus
Back to the Future - though this could be in the orchestral section below with the excellent Silvestri score - gets put here though because of "The Power of Love"
For orchestral:
Batman
Edward Scissorhands
Fantasia
Gladiator
Jurassic Park
Meet Joe Black
Sleepy Hollow
The Nightmare Before Christmas
The Mummy
The Frighteners
Apollo 13
A Beautiful Mind
The Mask of Zoro
Titanic - the score, not the crappy Celine Dion song
The Sixth Sense
Star Wars
Catch Me if you can
E.T.
Band of Brothers
Shawshank Redemption
The Green Mile
American Beauty
Remember the Titans
The Last of the Mohicans
geez...I could go on all day with scores that I like...

For years I always thought the best in the business were these guys:
John Williams (Star Wars, Superman)
James Horner (Titanic, Legends Of The Fall)
Jerry Goldsmith (The Edge) r.i.p.
John Barry (Dances With Wolves) r.i.p.
Hans Zimmer (Bram Stokers Dracula, Gladiator)
Alan Silvestri (Forrest Gump, B.T.T.Future)
Danny Elfman (Batman, Edward Scissorhands)
My new favorite classical cinema composer is THOMAS NEWMAN. If you like movie soundtracks, particularly classical and contemporary classical music then American Beauty and Meet Joe Black is required listening.

Star Wars
Titanic
Peter Pan (2003)
Lord of the Rings
The Time Machine (2002)
The Nightmare Before Christmas
Sleepy Hollow
Star Trek: The Motion Picture

I also loved how well the sountrack worked with the film, but I bought the CD and was completely dissapointed. Other than the song that comes on right at the end of the film, I found it to be dull and repetitive. Amazing how a movie changes your feelings and opinions.
My vote is for the Koyaanisqatsi soundtrack. The soundtrack is more or less the movie... and Philip Glass is the man!
