View Full Version : Best fronts for me?

I recently upgraded my receiver/dvd player (see below) and am now in the market for new front speakers. Room is 18x26 ft, 8 ft. ceiling, carpeted.
My question is probably an old topic but should I go with bookshelf /sub or floorstanders?(all Polk of course).
My budget puts me in the Monitor/RTi lines, favoring the Monitor 70 and RTi8 now but would consider bookshelfs/sub. I have not heard any of these yet. Also Tweeter offers a T90EB (looks like a Monitor 50) which I don't see on Polks' site nor do i see the LTi6 (very nice looking - new? price?) I saw on an audioreview gallery.
Any input or suggestions would be appreciated.

the common vote around here would be for the rti series over monitor.

Welcome to the forum Lammy. The T90EB is the European version of the Polk Monitor 60 and is an excellent speaker. I actually upgraded from the Monitor line including the T90EB to the RTi series.
The Rti series is a step up, and if you can start there, that would be the way to go. I am in the floorstander camp myself. The popular consensus in the Rti family for your center is the CSi5 over the CSi3 if its within your budget.
Early B.

Go floorstander with sub.

Early B is right: no matter what way you go you need a good subwoofer regardless of what route you go.
I wish I could remeber who said this, but someone recommended this in a similar thread "Find a tower that you are willing to buy and take the bookshelf from the next line up."
I personally am in the bookshelf and let my sub handle bass, but that is only because my HT is in my room. Your room seems more than big enough to accomidate towers. One problem about towers is many really aren't used to their potenial unless you have an amp.
Regardless of tower or bookshelf I too recommend the RTi line. It's only a bit more expensive than the Monitor but all the more clearer.

Add for cheap but incredible condition bookshelves from the RTi line.

Thanks everyone for your help. It is all good advise. I realize that it is mostly personal preference but I appreciate the input.
I have given thought to what Nemesis had mentioned and now am looking at the LSi7 or LSi9 w/sub. That thinking makes a lot of sense and would probably save me from a premature upgrade down the road.
Thanks for the tip on the Tweeter T90EB. I thought it looked like a Monitor series. And I guess the LTi6 doesn't exist ? (newbie here).
Well thanks again guys and I'll let you know what I decide.:)

I wish I had the money for the LSi's. O, and the sepearte amp to handle 4 ohmns speakers. :o   Certainly some of the best you can buy. Humble suggestion: LSi 9's.
Just a question: would you use the R50's or 15's for rears? If your receiver supports it, I think you have the makings of a pretty sweet 6 or 7 .1 system. (If it hasn't already crossed your mind)
