I clean it up my self every couple years. Honestly, I know I should take my gear in to have it spec'd to see if it's all working fine. I guess until I hear something different than what I'm used to, then I take it in for service. Most of my stuff is getting to be 20 years old and never had a single problem (crosses fingers).

I did buy a used Nakamichi receiver for my computer room which is in need of service. One channel is slightly louder than the other. I suspect one of the by-pass caps has dried out. It's easily fixed by adjusting the bal control about 1/8th of a turn. I'll take it in for service when I can find someone I trust to do the work properly.

When I had my Nak Dragon cassette deck I used to take in every year for a good cleaning and calibration. But that was a finicky tweaker of a cassette deck that required attention every year or so. Best piece of audio equipment I ever owned. That thing was incredible :D

The high-end store I used to work for in the 80's early 90's always had service clinics for equipment. It was a good way to get the customer in the door and tell them about new things or for them to ask questions. I wish more places would do this, it was a great idea and generated a lot of interest.

Those days are gone.......

I clean my gear once a year or so, DIY style.

If it breaks, I'll weigh the option of fixing it or replacing it.

I get serviced on a regular basis, but then again, I am married to Lady Godiva with blonde hair that nearly touches the ground.:D

Oh, now I get it, you meant electronics.

I dust them every once in a while. Thats about it.

So far nothing has gone tits up.

My Sony mini system with 51 disc changer is 8 years old now and has never had anything done to it other than dusting (although it has been moved and banged around several times) and it still works just fine.

Maybe there is something to this Electronics Fairy! :D
