As kids will often do, I had a visitor's kid push in on the tweeter on one of my RTi70 speakers. The speaker appears to play well but I was concerned that this tweeter may be damaged and was curious as to wether I might be able/need to replace it.

I was able to use an allen wrench to remove the six screws that hold down the bezel for the 2-woofers and single tweeter. I unscrewed the tweeter that was keyed in and used a soft Q-tip to carefully reform the silk dome from the inside-out. This appears to have worked well although I couldn't make the shape completely round again (1 or 2 very slight puckered areas). There doesn't appear to be a tear in the dome material, but I am concerned that this manipulation may still have caused damage to the tweeter or somehow affect its dispersion characteristics. I would like your opinion regarding this issue and also some direction on where I might be able to obtain replacement parts for this speaker, should I need them. Thanks for any advive you can provide.

Take out the baffle, pop out the tweeter.

Put the tweeter, dome face down in your hand, magnet upright... and twist counter clockwise... (or whatever way the magnet turns)

Turn the tweeter back over, magnet in your palm and lift the dome cover away from it... from here you will be introduced the innards of the dome and you can push it out (gently) with your fingers or whatever you so choose.

Sid, he already pushed it back out.

MT, it's probably ok, but if in doubt buy a new one and keep the grill covers on!

I told him how to make it completely round again. He has the info, its his choice to use it.
