Thank you

These pics were resized so I can post them here. If you (or anybody) wants, I can post them at full size on a picture site. I can then give you the link.

It's in Chaffee County about 2 hours west of Colorado Springs. We were up in the same area the week before with a local group and ran a trail up to Grizzly Lake. This is why you don't run a basically stock Nissan Titan on a difficult off-road trail without a spare drive-shaft.

Wow....that driveshaft is toast, twisted like a piece of foil..

Looks like you had a good time otherwise. Really nice pics

Kick ass, Frank! You're very fortunate to have access to a playground like that.

Frank,
Man you making me homesick. My father was born and raised in Salida, and as a kid we would always go to North Fork Reservoir, which I believe is on the the side of the mountain from the Hanckock lakes.

Nice pics, glad to see you had fun on the 4th.

Sean,
North Fork was on the list but we simply ran out of time.

Why exactly did the Titan's driveshaft twist in two like that?

We were all scratching our heads about that for most of the night. The next morning we took a real close look at the shaft and noticed the shaft had some straight gouges/scrapes on it. The current theory is that the scrapes were deep enough to severely weaken the shaft causing it to twist like a beer can when torque was applied. Keep in mind that we were crawling over rocks and boulders, so speed was not the culprit. The shaft itself is made out of thin aluminum and stuffed full of packing foam. The owner took the twist shaft to the local dealership and they flat refused to fix it under warranty. They said taking the truck off road constituted abuse. He ended up having a real drive shaft made out of good ol' American steel.
