A 'polkologist' who doesn't own Polk?

or at least I don't see any in the sig...

EDIT: BTW, I'm not knocking you for now owning Polk (if that is in fact the case). If you've found stuff you like better, then that's great. Just found it a bit ironic - I'm sure that you've made plentiful contributions to the forum...

Prove it.

1. What is Matt Polk's middle name?

2. What size passive radiator did the original Monitor 7 have?

3. Name 2 Polk speakers that have made the Stereophile Class C Recommended Components list.

4. What was the entry level tower, in the initial release of the RT series?

5. Name the 3 tower models in the LS series.

6. Who is the VP of Engineering at Polk?

7. What are the only two shelf speakers Polk has made, with 2 inch cone tweeters?

8. What does 'SDA' stand for, and name 2 completely different models that used 15 inch passive radiators.

9. Name two out of production Polk subwoofers, that used 8 inch drivers.

10. How many 'official' Polkfests have there been, and where were they located?

Score 70%, I'll send you your choice of a Steel ball-point pen with the Polk logo engraved, or a steel 20oz travel coffee mug with the Polk logo.

Cheers,
Russ

I'll give some of these a shot...

1) I have no clue...
2) I believe it was an 8", untreated.
3) RT25i, RTi4
4) Had to be the RT8 right? Unless there was one that utilized the RT3 in tower form.
5) LS90, 70, 50
6) Is it Stu Lumsden?
7) Wow - @_@
8) Stereo Dimensional Array - SDA 1.2 TL, 1.2, 2.3 TL
9) The PSW 120, PSW 550
10) FOUR, Two in Texas - One at Phuz's House, One at Russ's House. There was one in Baltimore at the Polk HQ, and one in SC at Troy's House

I know a guy that met him years ago. Is S the middle initial?

I started on answering the questions last night. Then I quit for the evening. When I got home today, I finished. Took me forever. However, I had stayed on it so long, the site 'forgot' who I was and made my re-enter my s/n & password. Thus, I lost everything I typed up. I really don't think I wanna do it again. :(

Oh well. So now I'm just in a really really, really bad mood.

Yes, S is the middle initial.

My original answer was very lengthy and in depth, but I'm just not going to put that much time in to it - twice. So, here's the Cliff notes version.

1. Matthew Steele Polk. Sid told me, as I couldn't find it anywhere.

2. The original Monitor 7 had a 10 inch passive radiator.
http://polkaudio.com/home/specs.php?category=3&speaker=280&vintage=1

3. Again, I couldn't find a thing on this. Sid told me RT25i and RTi4.

4. The RT8, I believe.
http://polkaudio.com/home/products.php?category=3&speaker=156&vintage=1

5. LS50:
http://polkaudio.com/home/products.php?category=3&speaker=267&vintage=1

LS70:
http://polkaudio.com/home/products.php?category=3&speaker=268&vintage=1

LS90:
http://polkaudio.com/home/products.php?category=3&speaker=266&vintage=1

6. Stu Lumsden.
http://www.soundstage.com/interviews/matthew_polk.htm
(about a quarter way down)

7. Again, I could find nothing on this. Sid told me R1 and R2.

8. Stereo Dimensional Array.

By aesthetics, it appears that the SDA SRS and SRS1.2TL are similar and the SRS2.3TL is different.

However, according to technology, it seems that the SRS1.2TL and SRS2.3TL are similar and the SDA SRS is different.

'Additionally, the SRS1.2TL and 2.3TL utilize Polk's Progressive Point Source technology to maintain a Constant Vertical Directivity of mid and high frequencies, which prevents undesirable beaming. As frequencies increase, the tweeter array adjusts its radiation area and eventually becomes an ideal point source at the very highest of frequencies, eliminating high frequency interactions and reflections between multiple drivers.'

9. PSW120:

PSW250:

10. Four: The first one (or at least the first one I read about) was at TroyD's house in Charleston. There was also one at the Polk HQ in Baltimore. Phuz and RuSsMaN also hosted get-togethers in Texas.

The original monitor 7 had an 8" passive radiator, which was soon changed to the 10".

Sid told you? No credit for those (three), because I told Sid (after he asked) a couple days go.

Good effort on the rest though.

Cheers,
Russ

Yep...

He asked, and I told him - but he would have to find them on the net to use them...

I still can't find a link to those R1 and R2 speakers... I want to see them. Never knew Polk used Cone tweeters - ever.

I remember Sean telling me a week or so ago about the RTi4 being on the Class C list, but I found them being on the Class D list on a thread here - was the RTi4 Class C or D?

The 1.2TL and 2.3TL have the 15" PR, but so did the 1.2 - just threw that in for no apparent reason.

What did the Bozo use?? All Full Range drivers or did it have a tweeter?

Was there any other odd speakers in Polks path??

I wasn't aware the 4 made any list. I was looking for RT5 and and RTi25.

AFAIK, the Bozo was all FR drivers. Probably the same drivers as the model 9 had, which started with a Piezo Tweeter, and ended up with a dome.

Only other oddities, are the Polk PA speakers (the very first speakers Polk built, if I recall correctly), you should have seen a pair when you were at Polk HQ.

Cheers,
Russ

In a couple months I'll be a "polkologist," but I don't know a damn thing about Polks. Don't own any, either.

I'll eventually have to lobby the forum's web wizard for another title. How about "bullshitologist" or "audiopimpin'" or "Polkabe."
