So i got a call today saying my amp is in complete working order. For a few who might not know my story, here you go.

Well, about 4-5 months ago, I found a Myryad MA-500 amplifier listed on eBay at what later turned out to be a great deal. I was looking to spend around $750 shipped for a good 3-5ch. amp and found this while looking for a nice Rotel. I emailed the guy offering $750 shipped (was listed for $850 shipped) and told him that's all I could afford. His auction just ended a 7 day stint with no bids so he replied that he'd take $780 shipped. That's when I figure it'd probably be pretty good to research it before committing. Yeah, so I lowballed him. I was on a VERY tight budget! That's when I found out this is a VERY highly regarded amp in Europe and Myryad's top of the line unit that retails around $4k. Well, the guy admitted to buying it for $2500 but couldn't afford it and they wouldn't take it back a few months later so he had to dump it for cheap and figured $850 was a starting point... well, with no potential buyers, he just wanted it gone. So I snagged it. Turns out, I didn't get my stuff for another month but at least I had my amp ready. Finally get everything home and go to hook this up and... WTF? Doesn't power up. I email him and go round and round. He swears he put 100-200 hours on it and it worked perfectly. The warranty is not transferrable so I'm screwed. He seemed nice enough and doesn't come off as the guy that'd screw you so I gave him the benefit of the doubt. I took it in for service about 2-3 weeks ago and spent $50 just for them to look at it. He contacted the local distributor and got a service manual out to him real soon. Turns out, during shipping a small connection came lose in the power supply and just needed to be put back on and tightened. Presto. Amp is working perfectly and the repair guy says it's a damn fine sounding amp (they also work on and sell nice high end equipment, not just junk like bose or something). I asked how much and he said "You don't owe us anything. Don't worry about it." I was completely shocked that a repair shop didn't try to bend me over and call me Sally. So not only am I getting my sexy amp back but I'm not having to fork out any extra cash. I'm so damn excited, I don't know what to do with myself. So, soon enough, I'll be running my lsi9's biamped off a damn fine amp. Can't wait to hear the difference between this and my two channel rotel that has had to fill the void. I'll know more soon. God I can't wait for my days off!!!!!

Yes, please post some pics. I bet she's a beauty. I'm pretty surprised the repair shop didn't charge you anything. Doesn't sound like you took it to Best Buy. They probably would have told you it was crap anyway because it wasn't made by Bose...and they more than likely wouldn't have known what the damn thing was in the first place because, well, it's Best Buy...

Hmmm.
Doesn't sound like you. Were you sick at the time? :)

Madmax - no I wasn't sick but when it comes to "business," I try to be professional and be courteous. When it comes to information on the 'net, I'm a dick. :D

HBomb - I'll have you invite you and da' Thug over for a lil Boulevard Wheat. MMMMM. I'll have to let you know when that's gonna be. I'm picking the amp up this monday but I need to get another set of speaker wire for my highs. I'm thinking of using my Cobalt's for the mids and getting Mapleshade cables for the highs (they're very airy but lack in bass, therefore I'd rather have the Cobalts in the low end). I'm gonna borrow a set from my buddy soon to see if I like the sound.

More to come...

If you pay full price for anything audio wise, without at least laying down the gauntlet, you're a moron. You did exactly what you should have done, some call it lowball, I call it simply bargaining.

It's great that it's back, but may I inquire why you didn't pop the top on it yourself?

I did pop the top off and didn't see anything unhooked from my end.

But let me tell you what... WOW! Just got it all hooked up this afternoon, listened to music for almost 2 hours than watched Saving Private Ryan. Whew... I was expecting a slight change but didn't think just an amp change will affect the sound THIS much. I love it... :D :D :D

the torroidal transformer looks MUCH bigger in person too... haha Thing weighs in at 45lbs. It's a beast.

It's actually funny how it puts out 150w @ 4ohm and my Rotel did 220w @ 4ohm and the Myryad blows it away in every aspect. Strange.

That thing has about the same dimensions as my 5ch. 7300 and still weighs 10pounds more!

Not strange to me. My H/K receiver blew my old ES Sony away in every aspect- and it was only 2/3 the wattage of the Sony. That Myyrad must have a ton of current capability. Enjoy!
