So i got a call today saying my amp is in complete working order. For a few who might not know my story, here you go.
Well, about 4-5 months ago, I found a Myryad MA-500 amplifier listed on eBay at what later turned out to be a great deal. I was looking to spend around $750 shipped for a good 3-5ch. amp and found this while looking for a nice Rotel. I emailed the guy offering $750 shipped (was listed for $850 shipped) and told him that's all I could afford. His auction just ended a 7 day stint with no bids so he replied that he'd take $780 shipped. That's when I figure it'd probably be pretty good to research it before committing. Yeah, so I lowballed him. I was on a VERY tight budget! That's when I found out this is a VERY highly regarded amp in Europe and Myryad's top of the line unit that retails around $4k. Well, the guy admitted to buying it for $2500 but couldn't afford it and they wouldn't take it back a few months later so he had to dump it for cheap and figured $850 was a starting point... well, with no potential buyers, he just wanted it gone. So I snagged it. Turns out, I didn't get my stuff for another month but at least I had my amp ready. Finally get everything home and go to hook this up and... WTF? Doesn't power up. I email him and go round and round. He swears he put 100-200 hours on it and it worked perfectly. The warranty is not transferrable so I'm screwed. He seemed nice enough and doesn't come off as the guy that'd screw you so I gave him the benefit of the doubt. I took it in for service about 2-3 weeks ago and spent $50 just for them to look at it. He contacted the local distributor and got a service manual out to him real soon. Turns out, during shipping a small connection came lose in the power supply and just needed to be put back on and tightened. Presto. Amp is working perfectly and the repair guy says it's a damn fine sounding amp (they also work on and sell nice high end equipment, not just junk like bose or something). I asked how much and he said "You don't owe us anything. Don't worry about it." I was completely shocked that a repair shop didn't try to bend me over and call me Sally. So not only am I getting my sexy amp back but I'm not having to fork out any extra cash. I'm so damn excited, I don't know what to do with myself. So, soon enough, I'll be running my lsi9's biamped off a damn fine amp. Can't wait to hear the difference between this and my two channel rotel that has had to fill the void. I'll know more soon. God I can't wait for my days off!!!!!
