I just got the HK235 today, wow, it's a beaut. I'll have more to say about it after I get more time with it.
My question is, how accurate is the auto calibration?

EZ set gets you close but isn't the most accurate. I used a radio shack spl meter with better results.

Maybe the newer ez sets work better

pretty accurate.

actually Mike- starting with the 230, 330, etc... series they totally re-worked the e-z set. It's pretty damn accurate. I double checked mine with an SPL meter and it was within 1db for all 6 of my 7 channels. Not too shabby. =)

Dammit!! Why do they always make improvements AFTER I buy my gear?!!

Just kidding....good to hear EZ set was improved as I am eyeing a new HK.

I am looking to get something like the 235, 335, etc. Basically I want a reciever with pre-outs, component jacks, etc. I eventually want to use it as a pre-pro.

Mike

that's the exact route I took. IF you go to H/K's website and compare the 235 and 335 (wattage, current, features) you'll notice that the 235 is a better buy- especially if you're going to end up using it as a pre-amp/processor.

If you're just going to use it for receiver duties- the choice gets a little bit tougher.

I purchased my 235 at www.jandr.com
Usually $500 everywhere like CircuitCity- I got mine for $350 including shipping and tax. Brand new, and they're a certified dealer so the warranty is valid.

H/K 335 usually $700 on sale for $460
H/K 235 usually $500 on sale for $350

Good luck!

Thanks for the info.

You are right, JR has really good prices on stuff. JR is near me and usually CC will price match JR's prices. I actually bought my 225 this way.

I will most likely get the 235 for use as a pre-pro unless some really good deal comes up on a higher model.

Also, how do you like the rti4's as fronts???

Are they neutral, etc.

I am 60% music, 40%HT

Thanks

Mike I love them. They're great little speakers. Neutral- yes- as long as they're hooked up to good amplfication. H/K would certainly qualify. =)

just chiming in because I have RTi4's for fronts as well...

I love them too. When running straight two channel, they sound great but missing the low end....when I add my sub to the mix, they sound wonderful. They were a bit bright for me, but once I switched from a Sony receiver to a Denon, they have mellowed out and the mids are more refined now.

For HT they are great as well. For the awkward and limited space I have in my listening room, they work perfectly.

I rest my case.

Jet2001 thanks for the info. They really are nice speakers and you've got them paired to a great receiver brand. And if I haven't said it before, being as how you're new- Welcome to the forums.

Good choice, you really can't go wrong with HK, Denon, or Marantz, IMO. I've owned all three at one time or another and they have very similar sound. Good luck and welcome to CP.

Thanks. I've appreciated reading from all of you. Hopefully I'll be able to return the favor one day.

Until then, I'll be sticking around. This is a great site and a great group of people.

Thanks again,

Just went to go check out the RTis (4,6,8) at a local retailer. From a build quality stand point these things are built really well. Nice and solid.

I couldn't hear 'em though because they were not hooked up and there was nobody around to help.

Really nice speakers. I'm going to head to another retailer and try to take a listen.

Has anyone had the ability to compare the RTis to the R series??How do they sound when compared to my R30's?

I have R15's as my surrounds. I hooked them up as my fronts one day just to hear them. They are great little speakers as well, but they didn't have the range the RTi's had. By range I mean, the RTi's fill the room and sound like a multi-directional speaker...whereas the R15's I could hear from where the sound was coming.

Don't get me wrong, they are a quality speaker, they just aren't as good 'to my ears' as the RTi's.

I'm assuming (there's that word again) that Polk is phasing out the R's for the Monitors, yeah?

I wonder how the Monitor Speakers, compare with the R speakers. Because imo the Monitors couldn't hold a candle to the rti's.

Went to CC today and they had an open box 235 with a defect right on the front:
The AV inputs on the front were missing. It looked like the plastic tabs weren't cut out although you can see the outline of the tabs.

I'm sure the inputs were behind it but one never knows...
