Volume Setting/display question

not to hijack the denon fried thread, but it's a quick question that deals with the subject sorta...


I have an onkyo and I play it around 35-40.

Is this suppose to mean 35-40 db below reference level? I would think not, right?

mine starts at zero and works it's way up to these numbers not the other way around. I see others refer to theirs as -20 or -15 instead of just 20 or 15.

The onkyo 502 has an absolute scale from 0 min to 79 max (I think). I have no idea what is a good maximum, or where referance level would be. When I had an onkyo 501 (with R50s), I never ran it above 55.

The -80 to +10 scale is a relative scale with referance level being somewhere around 0. The onkyo 502 doesn't have this kind of scale.
