Here is an old school Phase Linear rig that will be hooked up at Polkfest.

These pieces are from the early 1980's and they reflect a change from the early PL gear in regards to aesthetics, although the internals were as usual, top notch and overbuilt. This was after the company was sold to Jensen and marked the eventual end of Phase Linear.

Phase Linear 9500 CD Player
Phase Linear T5200 Tuner
Phase Linear DRS-250 Integrated Amplifier

The CDP was one of the first to be sold in the United States. It's a little moody and sometimes doesn't play discs but it's neat to see and hear a first generation CDP now and then.

The link is a great resource for Bob Carver and Phase Linear fanatics. If you browse the speaker link, you will see what started the path to the venerable Carver Amazing loudspeaker.

Neat, I've never seen any of those.

Those aren't old school Phase Linear, 400 and 700 amps were old school.;)

I could only dreamof 2000 preamps and a 700 amp as a teen.

I'm with Russ though, I don't recall those models. They must have been made when Emerson cd players were the rage at all my friends houses for $300 no less. I sure don't miss those times.

I've got a PL Model 3000 Series 2 preamp that I like a lot. Still works great. Looks almost like a shiny C-1.

Dennis - I know, it's simply vintage is what I meant. That's why I mentioned the aesthetics being a change from the earlier gear.

The series you mentioned was more along the lines of most gear at that time....big silver faceplates....analog meters....heavier than your refrigerator type :)

What boggles me is that after Jensen purchased the company, they eventually ditched the high end and home market to pursue Car Audio ideas. I think that it just reflected a market change as a whole, but it's suprising nonetheless.

PS85 - Nice :)
