There are tons of used amps out there. What price range are we talking about? Tubes or solid state? What pre-amp will it mate with? How much power are you looking for?

For that budget you can get a great amp with change left over for some good cables. I have a pair of ATI 1502's on my HT system. Check out the reviews. They sound real smooth with music. I've had Parasound, Rotel, Odyssey, Outlaw and HK, and ATI sounds better than all of them.

For $500, you should be able to swing a used Jolida JD 1501 RC hybrid integrated amp off of the 'bay or 'gon. A tube pre-amp section and a mosfet SS power amp section with a toriodal tranny, VERY conservatively rated at 100 watts per. Newer units have pre-outs as well for bi-amping, subs, zone 2, etc.

You get the best of both worlds as well as the ability to start some tube swapping.

This unit competes very favorably with my NAD S300 (which itself is really a Gryphon Callisto 2100) at a much cheaper price point.

I really like my Conrad Johnson Sonographe 250 (125WPC). It's around 500 smackers used. It was around $1100-$1300 retail new I believe.

Ya know I almost bought an ATI a couple years ago,it was multi channel, but sounded really, really good in 2 channel,it was a little $$$ at the time...think I'll look into them again.
