Well *your problem is the sony unit because sony makes lousy avrs and htib which is what I beleive what you have , if I were you I would ditch the sony and get a better system since the repair will cost more than a new unit.

when something like this happens in the car, it's often the fault of the speaker, perhaps you can take out the midranges from the center speaker, see if there's any loose wires... can't hurt, cause lou is right, repair isn't worth it... how much were you planning to spend on the repair?

Welcome...are you sure it's the player and not something else? Before sending the unit for repair you should try to isolate the issue...could be the player, or the receiver/amp, or the speaker, or a bad connection....

As HTrookie said, try and single out a problem. See if its the speaker. Can you reproduce the same poor results with a different speaker? Try using the faulty speaker with a different channel. Try borrowing a different AVR/DVD player. I assume you've tried different DVDs?
Call around for price quotes on repairs. You'll be suprised sometimes at how cheaply it can be done.
