Help on best Amp for my Polk setup

I am building a home cinema and currently have the following speakers.

Polk RT 600i fronts
Polk CS400i front and rear centre
Polk R40 rears.

I also have a pair of RT25i for two channel listening in another room.

The home cinema/listening room will alos be supported by a SVS 20-39PCi

I am looking at amplifiers at the moment and need some advice on what the best receiver is generally considered the best sounding for Polk speakers.

I am in the UK so I know there could be specification differences. I have been told that Denon amps (or most Japanese amps) don't go well with Polks but i thnk the salesman was trying to sell me an Arcam which is a bit out of my budget.

Any advice/experiences appreciated.

My first thought was to put those R25i's for surround instead of the R40's :) IMO

As far as amps...Start with what you can afford...then you can move up later if you like. Arcams are nice. Denon,Yamaha,B&K have some nice units that will run well with Polks. All my polks are tied to Yamaha's.

Yep, I may well do that and use the R40 downstairs.

I'm running an old Yamaha receiver at the moment and was thinking along the lines of the 2500 model as an upgrade. Not heard of B&K though. Another option is Harmon Kardon........I will be auditioning a few I guess but Polk are not very common over here in the UK so I may have to go retail so I can demo the amp at home, that pushes the price up as opposed to internet buying.

A lot of people like Denon for their Polks. Of course you will find many people who like Yamaha, Onkyo, HK, etc too. I like your idea of the Yamaha 2500 though. It's a very nice receiver. Model year changes are beginning right now for several brands, so if you keep an eye out, you might find a really good price on a closeout unit. Unless you see a feature on one of the new models you just [i]have/[i] to have though. ;)
