Hi All,

I am looking at purchasing either the HK avr235 or Onkyo 602.

Would either of these power the Rti8's? Would they sound good? I heard them on a Denon high end receiver and thought they sounded great. I just don't have the money to buy a receiver like that.

I also plan to purchase a vtf-2 subwoofer as well. This will be mostly for music and the occasional movie.

Thanks,

pf

The HK will have more sheer power. If you can afford it, find a Denon 2105. That'd be your best bet but it's a bit more money.

I'd vote for the Pioneer 1014/1015 at that price point.

HK will have more sheer power over the pioneer. But the Pioneer will have more options (including bi-amping).

RTi's are relativly easy to drive. I wouldnt worry about a reciever having the ability to drive them without issue. Its picking the one that sounds the best thats the issue :)
I have little experience with home theater recievers (went right to seperates myself, since I allrwady had seperate amps). Get a reciever with preouts. Will give the reciever a much greater chance of growing with your home theater needs down the road.

FWIW I am running the 8's off a yamaha rxv-540. with 80wpc. I find it has enough juice. I do not have pre-outs, mistake ! wish I did I would add an amp. That said using a powered sub and setting the 8's to small I couldn't complain one bit.

I have a HK 335 driving Rti8's. I find it pretty good. I had to lower the treble on the receiver a bit because I found it a touch too bright, but I love the sound now. I'm hoping in the future to add an Outlaw amp to my receiver, but the 335 definitely doesn't have any trouble powering these speakers.

Not so fast there! It has been established from Pioneer reps on AVS and/or HTF that the 1014/1015 is in fact the exact same as the Elite VSX-52TX save for exterior trim, warranty period, a RS232 port, and a zone 2 feature. They even share the same sevice manual.

Check out these specs from HTM, which, IMO, is much better than S&V's:

http://www.hometheatermag.com/receivers/1204pioneer/index2.html

Especially take note of: • Five channels driven into 8-ohm loads: 0.1% distortion at 115.3 watts; 1% distortion at 129.7 watts

and: This graph shows that the VSX-52TX's left channel, from CD input to speaker output with two channels driving 8-ohm loads, reaches 0.1% distortion at 121.2 watts and 1% distortion at 143.1 watts. Into 4 ohms, the amplifier reaches 0.1% distortion at 197.0 watts and 1% distortion at 231.4 watts.

So, I got the green light to spend a bit more.

I like the features of the Pioneer 1014 and the Denon 2105 does seem nice, but I am not sure what would better fit my needs. Can someone give me their professional opinion? Ultimately, I will start with the two rti8's, vtf-2 (possible vtf-3) subwoofer and may will in the rear and center at a later time.
This will go in a room that is 18ft by 20.8 ft.

Thanks,
