Hum that won't go away

I have a PSW202 subwoofer that hum constantly, all the Polk satellite speakers are quiet.

Here is what I have done so far and nothing has gotten rid of the hum.

Disconnected the coax for the satellite dish and the tv antenna where they come into the house and from the back of the reciever.

Placed all plugs into the same surge surpressor as the sub.

Pulled out all the plugs and left only the sub plugged in.

Plugged the sub directly into the wall.

Took the sub upstairs and plugged it into another wall socket on a completely different circuit.

Took the subwoofer down the street to a home theater store and it still hummed down there.

When any bass sound comes through the speaker it distorts badly.

Took the speaker out of the cabinet and connected it and there was no hum and sound came through without distortion

Currently it is sitting in a room by itself the only thing plugged into the wall and humming away.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

That sub has some bad amps. Contact Ken Swauger in customer service. He will walk you through how to get it fixed under warranty (ie: if you are the original owner and it is less than 5 years old). Here is a link to get to CS.

Should be under warranty I bought it on 12/22/2002 and I see in the manual it has that 5 year warranty. Thanks for the quick response Shack.

Hello Stone,
Thanks for the Forum posting, I'm sorry you're having a problem with your PSW202. You would want to:
1). unplug the AC power cord and remove the 10 Phillips head screws that go around the circumference of the amplifier's input plate.
2). the amplifier will come away from the cabinet and you'll see two wires (one red the other black) that lead to the 10" woofer. These wires easily disconnect from the woofer's terminals using the slip off metal clips.
3). box the amplifier up and send to Polk Audio, 2550 Britannia Blvd., Suite A, San Diego, CA. 92154, please include a short note giving us your name and address and a copy of your sales receipt.
The service department will quickly send a replacement amplifier.

I must say this customer service is fantastic. With service like this I will be buying Polk in the future and telling others of this kind of support!
