Is this a good amp for the SDA's I'm getting from Noel???? Or should I look for something else???? Would like it to be my "final" purchase....don't want to buy something now and need to upgrade soon....

EDIT: OR MAYBE THIS???

I don't think Crown makes a good amp for home use. I use them at work over our PA system, a lot of inexpensive power is why we use them. Plus since it is over outdoor horns, sound quality isn't really much of an issue. I don't think you would be happy with them....certainly wouldn't be a final purchase.....don't really think there is such a thing........

The Carver would be a better choice....

I believe in another thread you said you had an Adcom 535. Stick with that and get a good pre-amp instead of the Denon rec and you will be just fine. The Adcom IMO is going to be a much more musical amp then the Crown you are referring to. Keep what you have, try it for awhile, and then decide. The 535 maybe only rated @ 60 watts/ch but its a sweet high current amp that should give you all you need.

Well...thanks; I just thought that the 535 would be too small..but you are right; should try with the Adcom and see how it goes. It is just that I had no plans for the SDA's....and I wish I had all I need to make them justice..... I will slow down a bit.....:)

I powered those sda's with 5 watts from a sonic impact.. just for kicks and they sounded ok, so 60 watts to start with is fine.

Ok...so the 535 and a good pre-amp...so which of these would be a good choice? They are both a couple of hours to go, so I guess the price will not go too high.. (I wish)..

Thanks for the input..

HTrookie, just for your information the Carver M-500t is a NON COMMON GROUND amp and won't work with SDA's without the AI-1 cable! Otherwise it's a great sounding amp.

Don't know a whole lot about either. The Carver w/sonic holography might be overkill??? Sonic Holography is a circuit that recreates the exact same thing the SDA's are designed to do naturally.

The NAD I'm sure is solid gear.....both appear to be older. I'm not sure if they will be the ultimate pre or not. You could continue to use your Denon until a slightly higer end pre comes along or I personally would go with the NAD. Neither are really ideal IMO....I'd look for a used Adcom GFP-750 or perhaps a Parasound or even and Adcom GFP-710. But that's just me. I'm sure others will have some suggestions too. Good luck and congrats on the SDA's

You knew enough to grab those SDA's... :p ;) At the prices those pre's might go for it sure wouldn't hurt to experiment. I still think you should use everything you have right now for awhile and get used to the system and then try to tailor it to your needs. The synergy right away may make you very very happy, who knows.

either one will drive your SDA's good. If your SDA's can be biamped- then for a little over $300 you can be pushing between 160 and 250 per ch.

they can't be bi-amped..

cool. are they 4ohm speakers? If so- then that's 250 X 2. That's alotta mosfet power for the $ if you ask me.

(EDIT) i'm a dumbass. Read it wrong.

I'm running my SRS2 with a Carver TFM-35. It will push them pretty hard at 350w per at 4 ohms. Good combination IMO.
