I was talking to the sales rep about how to hook up the trigger wire for my yamaha 2500 and b&k amp. He stated the he never shuts down his system. He just turns down the volume. Said that it would increase the life of the equipment. No cooling and heating and cooling and so on.
Any thoughts on the subject.

It's one of those "decide for yourself" issues. I personally power down my system everytime. You'll hear a zillion arguments from both camps on that question.

My system is powerd down more than it's powered up. If I know I'll be listening all weekend I'll leave it on. My stuff is going on 19 years old and I've no issues at all. It's a personal preference. I mean if you are going to turn it off and on 2-3 times a day that's probably not good in the long run.

If I think I will be listening to the system that day and/or the next few days - I leave it on. However, if I know I wont be using the system for a couple of days, for whatever reason, than off it goes.

If i decide i want to take a 50/50 chance of a fire, i leave my system on.. never know when something heats up or shorts. :D
Really, Off if i wont be useing it within a hour or so. and its amp on first then pre, pre off first then amp on the shut down.
No need to leave it running if for nothing else than safety. it could run for 10 years with no problems, or take just one thing to start a fire

You have that one backassward. Pre on first, amp on second. Amp off first, pre off second.
Who's on third?

Yea, you just don't want to amplify any big "pops" or other sounds coming from the preamp when you turn it on.
