Now that I've had about 6 months experience with SDAs, I feel that I'm fairly qualified to comment on their attributes.

I have a pretty large room(26x18 approx) that I have my gear set up in. I spent the majority of the day, yesterday, rearranging the room. The room has real wood paneling all around including the ceiling, which is 7 ft tall. The room is also fully carpeted. For the most part, it's also very well dampened, very few reflections.

The major drawback of this room is the built in cabinet that the tv rests upon, sux!! It's not that it's built in, it's that it's off center on the wall it's on, so I can't utilize it for the 2-channel rig and have the SRS 2s set up ideally. So I have the tv, dvd, HK 3380 and a set of RTA 8TLs, SDA 2Bs, and JBL E150P sub, to run 2.1 movies and such on, on that wall.

I used the longest wall in the room to set up my #1 2-channel system on. The system is comprised of: Dodd Audio ELP, AMC 2100 ss amp, AMC CD8b, and SRS 2s with Coppperheads between the pre and amp and Cobalt Ultimates between source and pre. Tara Labs Prime Bi-wires going to the speaks have been modded for single binding posts by SCompRacer. Thanks Rich. The CD8b has been modded by Zero with upgraded Burr-Brown DACs, opa-amps, and Vampire(?) RCA jacks. Sounds very good. I also have put my Monitor 7As on this wall that will be driven by the ASL Wave 20s that I picked up from Doro last weekend, while in Maryland. I can't run them until i get some new tubes, as one of the 6L6s guides was broken off in the socket :( . I'll get them fired up soon.

The SRS 2s are 8ft apart and 8"s from the back wall. The left speaker is about 4 1/2 ft from the side wall and the right is 12 ft from it's side wall, so it really doesn't come into play. I had temporarily set them up where the 2Bs are and even though they weren't optimally positioned, they still sounded incredible. Now that they are, for the most part, set up optimally, they sound absolutely marvelous. The soundstage widened and deepened. The Taras definitely made needing a sub for low level listening, a thing of the past. They also allowed for more detail in the upper mids and highs. It didn't matter what type of music I played, either. I played some acoustic music, smooth jazz, hard rock, blues, funk, folk rock, et. etc. Everytime the music sounded outstanding. The imaging was precise. Every instrument was where it was supposed to be. The SRSs were about as transparent as they could get. Man, I can't wait to get an all tube amp on these babies. More to come after tonight's listening session :D .

Pics are coming to a theater near you, soon :D .

I'm having problems uploading pics that I took with my new camera  . I'll take the Fuji, from work, home with me tonight. They always seem to work.

The room was added on in `75, so I can't answer "Why" . They might be 7 1/2' but they aren't 8' for sure. I can touch them with the palm of my hand while shoeless and flat footed and my arm not fully extended. :)

Well that might well have 6' 1/2 ceilings then :D that was in in the 70's.. Low furniture and ceilings.. :)

Thanks Rich.

Your most welcome. The Tara's convinced me that cables do make a difference. Plenty of reach deep in them SRS 2's, eh? ;)

That explains it. In the 70's the builders were making the ceiling heights about 7 foot to cut back on cost, save trees and help cut back heating costs. Remember, we had a big oil shortage then.

Yep, with the puter in the corner. I have a pic of it, but the file size is 617kb and we're limited to 500kb file size. I don't know how to re-size the file. That's another reason I haven't posted any of my PFest pics from Doro's and HQ.
