I was just drooling over some of Polk's speakers that I can't afford when I ran across the page for their MMC6500 component set. Right under the picture and titling the description is the sentence "If it's too loud, you're too old."

Now, on the one hand I can look at that sentence and think, "Yeah, that's kinda cool." I mean, I can see where they're coming from and the market they're trying to reach. However, I think it way too strongly supports today's attitude that old folks are just in the way and using up our air. It seems today that nobody has any kind of respect for authority whether it be the government, reiligious institutions, or other people in positions of authority.

As younger folks trying to make it through the world alive (and hopefully happily), the elderly can offer so much valuable advice and wisdom - the stuff that's only gained with time. They should be honored for making it through most, and arguably the roughest part, of life. They should be granted the priveleges, shown the respect; we should be the ones to step aside and let them go through. We should be the ones trying to accomodate them, not the other way around.

Today's attitude says they just take up space and should get out of our way; that is, if they persist in sticking around. To me, that statement "If it's too loud, you're too old" is just dripping with that same attitude.

To be honest, I'm disappointed in Polk for taking a part in that.

The problem with your mini rant is your preaching to the choir. No other group of people you will talk to even comprehend why you are mad probally.

This group of people has sat by and watched Hi-Fi sound just completely drain for about all its worth... some are more willing to admit it than others. But what your complaining about is just about whats wrong. There is nothing you can do when 95% of the market has that mind set, loud is better, small speakers are better, small subs with 40hz drop offs are better... receivers are better... cheaper is better... HTIB is better...

Its all one in the same.

Ok...

Lets say someone calls you a name... this name dosnt bother you and dosnt think much of it.

However some stranger you've never met starts arguing with the person that called you whatever it was. That stranger has the potential to start something between you and the guy you didnt have a problem with and just can create a situation that never existed.

Old people were young once, and while they deserve all kinds of wicked respect - like everything else, if they (or anyone else) is laughing at what your arguing about... the point is almost pointless and rarely comes out to any good. Thats where you just start to bowlderize everything in society to the point of where you cant live. It just sucks.

audiobliss,
i see and understand your point.. we often times don't show much or very little respect for our elders. In other cultures/societies.. the more "mature" people were looked up to and highly respected members of their communities.

Today unfortunatley, we put our more mature members of society out to pasture if you willl and we try and ignore them as best we can. It's sad sometimes.. older folks have the most expendible income of all. they usually have no mortgage payment, no car payment, no brats to put thru school.. etc. But yet the only thing that advertisers try to sell to older folks is Metmucil and those types of products.

I'm old(er) that a lot of the people here, (41) to be exact. I know that the SR6500 isn't aimed towards my generation... everyknow knows us baby boomers HATE music of all kinds. We only lived thru the best age of rock and roll. But yet we don't care about good high quality music.

I'm not offended by Polks marketing slogan for this product. It's not aimed towards my generation.. so i probably won't buy it. But that's not because i'm offended by the slogan. I'm flat out broke. :p

I have experienced, and seen how one person can persuade another into believing something entirely different than what they started out believing in a certain situation - thus making it ALOT worst than it should have been. Usually it ends up in a bad spot.

There also moments where you can persuade, alter a whole group of people - thus changing an entire situation. Its quite amazing how "sheep" work.

The way it works in the world dosnt seem to be much different. A few people start complaining, they get their way and change everything. Its the whole basis of Political Correctness - pleasing everyone about everything.

Alright you little teenage runts, sit down ‘indian style’ and listen up.

Your hearts are in the right place, but the thought process is trailing behind a bit. I am going to spend far more time than I should just to set this particular record straight.

The phrase; “If its too loud, you’re too old” was coined around the late 70’s and became very popular between the mid to late 80’s (You will find this quoted in many movies of that era). This is not your generation kiddos, this is when you all were still in diapers and learning your ABC’s.

The phrase is an element of good spirit meant to celebrate life and music with a hint of stupidity by blasting your ear-drums while jamming to your favorite tunes. This is of course, a habit that mostly youth participate in - - but its not limited to those that are older.

In fact – it has nothing to do with being old! Let me translate what the phrase really means; “If its too loud, you’re too soft / weak / prude / lame”.

If this still offends you, then do us all a favor and remove your testicles as you clearly have no use for em’. That offend you? I hope so. Look kiddo’s, there is a lot of nasty stuff to get your collective panties in a twist over – don’t waste your time or energy worrying about something that merits no concern. Pick up a *real* cause to focus your youthful energy on.

LMAO!!! Thats priceless!

Dont be too hard on em tho. When youre that age you dont really have anything to worry about. Youre not burdened with the responsibility of putting food on the table or keeping a roof over your head but the human spirit requires a mountain to climb in order to feel worthwhile. Thats why its usually only these college hippies or Hollywood stars that take up these idiotic causes, they have no real responsibilites in their lives. Once they get out in the real world and start supporting themselves then that becomes their priority and bettering themselves and providing for themselves is the motive that drives them and they soon forget about the rain forest or the G8 summit.
