Has anyone seen this movie yet. I know it just came out on DVD today but just wondering if anyone saw it in the theaters.

Drug a bit, some cool special affects and moderately interesting and relevent political commentary. All in all, I'd rate this period piece halfway between Troy (watchable) and Alexander (Blended cat fecal matter)

i'll pass. Gladiator was medicore at best and it won the damn Oscar. Traffic was robbed.

Joaquin Phoenix made that movie.

I bought this movie today as a blind buy. I wasn't sure if it was going to be any good. Orlanda Bloom and his crustache (yes!) annoy me, but the lovely letters 'DTS' sold it. It always does.

Loved Gladiator and Black Hawk Down so this was a must buy for me. I enjoy Orlando so that's not an issue. Plus, Knight films are favorites of mine.

WalMart was combining a softcover book on the background of the movie with the DVD for a couple of dollars extra when I picked up a copy yesterday. The book is excellent. Haven't watched the DVD yet.

We just rented this last night and it was ok. It is kind of longwinded and moves pretty slow and there may be a time or two when youre going, "....ummmm....huh?". Still its not too bad. Good soundtrack but not a lot of surround effects going on.

Its worth a rental but I wouldnt buy it unless I could find it for like $4 just to make my DVD collection look bigger.

Id say 6 out of 10.

Just watched it myself. I agree with teh "Uh... Huh?" comment. I was admittedly lost through half of this movie.

I thought it was a good movie as well. Did drag and had 90% historical inaccuracy but whatever...

Enjoyed.

Nothing to right home about and movie was abit slower than anticipated , but it was it worth a rental . DTS was a plus , but as mentioned not alot of DTS streaming in the movie .

7-1/2 score from me .

Maybe it's Ridley Scott, becuase I honestly didn't think this movie was dragging at all, but I thought Gladiator drags horribly. I can hardly watch that movie becuase it drags so much, despite all the good stuff. Maybe you guys are seeing the same thing in this movie that I see in Gladiator. Because I think I'm the only one here who has said anything about that one dragging. :confused:

Watched this over the weekend. Visually, definitely a great Ridley Scott movie. Very balanced politically so as not to offend too many people. Orlando Bloom has been in too many sword wielding movies recently though. He was better as an Elf. My biggest disappointments were the absurd image of siege engines tossing fireballs a quarter mile into the city and Bloom's character mysteriously transforming from a village blacksmith to an almighty medieval warlord/engineer without any apparent war fighting education or much weapons training. Could have been a lot better, but one standout was the actor playing Saladin. The hand to hand battle scenes were excellent also, as well as the creation of the stunning sets used throughout the movie.

Still, not as bad a Ridley Scott movie as "Thelma and Louise".

It needed a secondary character to lighten the mood. Everybody was in a grim manner. The characters with Neeson in the early part of the film were far more interesting, it was silly to kill them off that early.

They should atleast had kept the German guy and Vorenus on up to the seige. A waste of good character actors.

I saw the movie, have the original DVD set, and am wondering if it is worth the upgrade. Like many have said, the original seemed to miss a lot of info/character development and pacing seemed off because of studio slashing of Ridley's original 3-hr + version.

I'd double dip on the 4-disc version if the extra hour or so of film really enhances it.

I picked it up last night at BB, its not like most extended versions of movies that I've seen, Its adds some whole other story lines that wasn't even mentioned in the original i won't go in to any details as far the story goes but I will say that it a little darker than the original and does offer a lot more insight to the characters and there relationships with each other, theres a lso good bit more gore in the battles. if you liked the first one you should pick this one up or atleast rent it.

I enjoyed the first release, and unlike the recent stream of "extended edition" movies being released that contain insignificant and minimal added footage, this one lives up to the billing. It makes for a more complete movie.

The Directors Cut adds more background information to the characters, and introduces some who were not even seen in the first release. The story lines are more complete, there are actual changes in the dialoge of certain scenes, and I agree with Millerman that the gore in the battles is less restricted. The sound and picture quality also remains top notch.

If you liked the original release, you will appreciate this one even more.
