So I've got an extra $300 bucks laying around and I haven't treated myself to any new toys in some time. So, I've got two "upgrades" in mind.

1) An up converting DVD player. Anyone have one that they like? Sony just came out with one for about $130 which would leave me some cash to upgrade my current HDMI cable. Anyone here any news on this unit yet?

2)mY Dual 604 is still acting up, so I can get it fixed.....or buy a new one. Found a music hall1.2 for $300 at J&R. Any other suggestions on good Turntables for around $300?

Guess I should of made this two threads.

Don't really want to tell you what to do with your own money but regarding your TT, take it to a technician for an estimate before shelling out $300 for a new one. You never know, it might cost you only $50 to fix it.

What is wrong with your current HDMI cable? Just wondering why you think you need to replace it. Are you gettings actual transmission errors on it that you have traced to actually be the cable and not the TV or source? There are lots of things to spend money on, but digital transmission cables are not the first place to look. Heck, someone used a couple coat hangers that they scraped the paint of the tips and sodered RCA heads to for use as a SPDIF cable, and guess what, there were 0 transmission errors. Once you go digital for transmission, it is a lot harder to screw it up due to the wire used... Unless there is something physically wrong with your current cable (i.e. one of the ends was bent, the housing/cable was partly cut, the cable keeps comming out of the TV/player, the support structure around the end pieces has discintigrated), there is no reason to spend money on them. Use that cash to fix your TT or upgrade an amplifier or replace some tweeters....

FYI, in my experience, the DVDS97 from Panasonic has the best PQ in the $300 range. A good HDMI cable will cost around $100-$150 depending on length.
