Rush fans?

I pulled out my 2 CD greatest hits set from Rush the other day. Holy smokes batman, I had forgotten just how awesome this band is.

Working Man, Closer to the Heart, Spirit of Radio, Tom Sawyer, Red Barchetta and my favorite...Limelight.

Talk about a group that made "kick you in the nuts" rock, they were it! Neil Pert is one of the greatest drummers EVER! Alex Lifeson does some serious stuff on guitar. Geddy Lee, although he resembles the wicked witch, commands the stage!

What was the live album that Neil Pert did that AMAZING drum solo?

Rush is awesome! The first band to have both extreme talent and musical skill and also make great music. I always liked their sound too. Very clean and stereo friendly.

Counterparts would be my favorite.

If you're talking about the 20 minute drum solo... he did one at the Rio concert. Available on DVD or CD. It's really a great concert. Nearly 3 hours long. If you buy the DVD you also get a documentary on the second disk that's really a good watch...

BIG Rush fan too. been listening to them from day 1, and have just about every album. My personal favorites are Hemispheres and Moving Pictures. Don't care much for the "new" stuff (Power Windows and on...).

Don't care much for the "new" stuff (Power Windows and on...).i love Rush especialy the earlier albums, Caress of Steel, with the Necromancer. the album, A Farewell to Kings and the songs Xanadu and closer to the heart. and the album Hemispheres was a very good one in my book. i think moving pictures was the last album that Rush recorded that i could really connect with. i saw them live twice in their prime and it was great from the first song all the way thru till the encore. the drummer Neil Peart was always on point and Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson held it all together. when a three piece band sounds this good live you know that you are witnessing something very special....thanks....WCW III

Seeing Rush live was one of the best concert experiences I've ever had, period. They are almost too perfect. Amazing, and Geddy Lee is the most talented of the three, which is saying a whole lot. Although I don't care for their newer stuff, the talent and passion is still there, just for a newer generation.

RUSH is not only one of my favorite bands but might just get top honors. I have a lot of their albums in LP format and most of them on CD (21 different and 8 Remasters.) I've seen them in concert and have a couple of their videos.
IMO Neil Peart IS the best drummer ever!
If I had to pick a favorite album I guess it would be Moving Pictures

Bob, I'll have to agree with you on both counts. I know there are alot of John Bonham worshippers, but what Neil Peart does just defines perfection!

Moving Pictures nailed it on all counts. Red Barchetta is one serious jam! As I said before, Limelight is my favorite.

Time for me to go shopping for Rush DVD's. I caught them on a cable station about 2 months back. Some recent concert they were playing. They had that sold out house rockin! Was great to see the younger generation out there singing along with every song.

Oh yeah, BTW Bob and John, I prefer Mike Portnoy (Dream Theater) to Neal Peart. Both are amazing talents though.

BTW- The first live concert you should buy on DVD of Rush, HAS to be the Live in Rio concert. It just plain ROCKS. The crown is incredibly enthusiastic. They know all the words to all the songs, and English isn't even the primary language!!

edit- a lot of people complain about the sound quality on this DVD. I don't see what they're complaining about. The crew didn't have time for a soundcheck before the show, on account of rain. They were tweaking as they went, and they certainly couldn't get all the bugs out. The crowd is noticible, but I think that's what gives this recording energy. You can really hear how the crown reacts to everything...

I seriously cannot listen to Rush. i appreciate that everyone has different tastes, and I am definitely in the minority of rock fans in my opinion but... I just don't like them. They are great musicians, and I would even say they've WRITTEN some great songs, but their sound does NOTHING for me. Every time I say this someone says "listen to this song, it'll change your mind". And I do. And it doesn't.

IMO, Neil Peart is the best percussionist in rock and John Bonham is the best drummer. There is a difference. Bonham used a minimalist drum kit, while Peart uses just about every known piece of percussion instrument in his set. I think they are both amazing, but for completely different reasons and styles.

there were a couple of occassions when Bonham added an extra bass drum, but when he'd leave the studio, the rest of the members would have it removed. He didn't need another, since he could roll the one with his foot. :cool:

Don't feel bad, I cannot STAND the Rolling Stones...talk about rock blasphemy. They have not cut a single record I like.

All you die hards...the Vapor Trails remaster is coming soon...and lets not forget about the new dvd due out this fall R30!!

Another disciple here. I became a fan right around the time Permanent Waves came out (saw them that tour...my very first concert ever (had tickets for the Kinks earlier that year but it was cancelled due to a snowstorm) and it was frickin' incredible...as first concerts generally are. Grace Under Pressure was their last new CD that I bought as I don't care that much for the new stuff, but I still enjoy the new songs enough not to fast forward through them when listening to the new live albums. My favorite of their albums is Hemispheres although I probably listen to Moving Pictures more often. And I think their best live album is Exit Stage Left, for what its worth...just a great set list. The only song on there that I don't love is Closer to the Heart (never dug that one, for some reason). Also for fans of the early stuff check out their first live album, "All the World's a Stage"...the recording isn't too good but the performances are excellent and of course it is all early material with great performances of "Bastille Day," "Anthem" "Something for Nothing" and "By-Tor and Snow Dog," amond others. That is great stuff that they generally don't play live anymore.

Huge fan here, have been for a long long time. My buddies and I used to get together quite often for a rushfest of sorts. I cannot say that I have heard another drummer that can hammer it out like the rush boys man. I will be a diehard till the day I pass......at least of the old school stuff anyway.
