Here's a bit of interesting and unfortunate news:
I read on a site that I like that Danny Elfman was so dissatisfied with his experience on Spiderman 2 that he refuses not only to work on the 3rd film, but that he will never work with Sam Raimi again if he can help it.
Apparently, he says that Raimi and others were so ridiculously intent on Elfman matching the temp score note for note, much of which included music from the first film, that he was not allowed to actually compose to his discretion. I find this interesting, since I seemed to have heard lots of new and interesting music in the second film, especially some of Doc Ock's themes. Still, it's unfortunate that Raimi couldn't trust his long-time colleague to do what he does best without telling him what to write.
Elfman even says that when he refused to copy a temp track lifted from the Hellraiser score, they hired the Hellraiser composer. Even he could not copy the music to their liking, so they ended up paying for the licensing fees to use a cue from Hellraiser for one lousy scene. Sounds like an awful lot of effort to go through instead of letting one of Hollywood's best composers simply do the job they paid him to do.
Elfman accused Raimi of being an extreme micromanager and stated that he did not recognize the man he's known for 15 years during the experience. Sounds like negative fallout from too much studio pressure to a certain degree. Who knows?
I just thought that was really interesting.
By the way, did anyone know that Elfman is married to Bridget Fonda? Kind of an unusual match, a composer and an actress.

I always thought it was Jenna Elfman he was married to but it is actually his brother's son that married her.

When a film is first cut together in post production, the editing team cuts together a temp track, or a temporary film score, usually consisting of cuts from other films or classical music, to give the film a more finished feeling and to give the composer some ideas as to the mood of the scene. As in the case of Spiderman 2, where most of the film was temp tracked w/ the score from the first film.

I didn't know that but good for him. She's a nugget. She seems to have somewhat unusual taste in men for a Hollywood type...I know she dated Dwight Yoakum for awhile. I guess she just likes musicians.
