I thought the whole idea of the Polk offer was because these were going to go retail and the price was going to go way up

The price did nearly double on the MLP. If you recall, Gary added an extra set of pre-outs ($50 savings), came off his price of $450 and free shipping for the ELP. Even with no shipping by tweekgeek, we still got a deal on the ELP because of the upgrade.

OK, but how can they sell lower than direct from the 'factory' so to speak.

OK, but how can they sell lower than direct from the 'factory' so to speak. :confused:if you knew what the markup is on most audio gear it would make you sick to your stomach! Dodd stopped selling factory direct so they could focus on the manufacturing end.

Gary wasn't a factory. He was a one man shop. Everything built one at a time. I get the impression that Gary is now building on more of an assembly line format (albiet a small one). All of this has been brought on by his new business relationships and opening up new retail opportunities.

Please don't 'guess' as to what Gary is or isn't doing.
He is still a one man show.
Tweek Geek is paying the regular price for the ELP, THEY have chosen to take a hit to try and stir up interest on their site.
Gary is still selling direct.

what's it matter, all the talkers didn't pony up on the last sale :D I was the proud one to place thee first order, at 385.00 its a fantastic deal. Still have mine now if i didn't need the money for medical bills :(
But i was under the impression given, that thee deal here was before he stopped selling to the public direct and doubled the prices  and entered a committment with a business of some sort.
either way, at this price, who cares what's going on.. Grab one.

How long was the wait on the Polk offering?
It's going on 5 weeks since these people charged my account and no ELP yet.
Maybe they should let you know that they do not stock these units and it may be months before you get what you paid for.

Been 3 weeks today for me. The Geek didn't say not in stock at time of purchase and did charge my credit card as well. Seems they shouldn't charge the full fair till it's ready to deliver. I had the same issue with my Jolida cd player from Sound Odyssey and then after pushing him for a refund he said he had shipped it that morning when in reality it didn't ship till the following Monday. He did a great job on the mods. so I guess I forgive him ;) I realize Dodd is a one man band and he offers a great value in the ELP, so I'll hold out. Still it would be nice to get it BEFORE CHRISTMAS!

I ordered my ELP directly from Gary on 4-30-05 and recieved it on 6-27-05 (8 weeks ±) I did pay by check so he may have waited till the check cleared before processing my order.

Bummer man :( I only hope that when it does arrive it blows me away. Sure hate to send it back after waiting that long.

It'll be worth the wait. The ELP transformed my system. When I got the MLP, it was even better, but that is a huge jump in the cost.

Decent audio, but piss poor business models.
Come on guys, raise some stink about the wait. You should never have to pay full price ( maybe a hold deposit, but never full price) for an item only to find out that the vendor doesn't even have the parts yet to make the item. This isn't a business, it is poorly run hobby. If a vendor can't fund his own inventory, then he needs a banker or a group of investors to work a floor plan type of upfront capital loan to insure reasonable service.
Go ahead and flame away, but the low price of ELP doesn't excuse this type of customer service wait times. Simply poor business.

Maybe they should let you know that they do not stock these units and it may be months before you get what you paid for.i know that it seems like a long time but you are not buying a mass produced item but basically something that is handmade one at a time. i can relate to this because i am a regular customer of Odyssey Audio which is also a small Audio manufacturer . there is not a warehouse full of amplifiers, preamps, Loudspeakers sitting there in stock ready to ship. i order what i want in the color of metal or real wood veneer that i want with whatever options i feel that i need to integrate the unit into my system.be it dual sets of WBT outputs and H/T bypass on a preamplifier or dual sets of WBT binding posts for biwiring or upgraded amperage, wpc and capacitance for a power amplifier. is this kind of personal service, with gear that is overbuilt with premium parts, just one unit at a time well worth the wait ? i very much prefer this type of handmade gear VS the mass market type! i dont even think twice about the wait!thanks....WCW III

Hey Dennis,i think that Odyssey takes about two weeks from the date that i give my order until it lands on my doorstep and Klaus does not charge a dime until the day it ships. was it around the same amount of wait time for you also? thanks....WCW III

WCW is looking at the bigger picture. Nobody likes to wait on a piece of gear and I dont blame the guys who got charged for being upset. Gary wanted to keep the ELP price down partly so folks could get a taste at very reasonable cost, now TG is doing the same, looks like the legend of this little piece is growing.
That said TG needs to be very open about the wait, otherwise, its going to hurt them and Dodd to some extent. I think I waited about 8 weeks for my MLP which I dealt directly with Gary on and he was very open and informative to my e-mails and calls.

Klaus doesn't only know audio, he knows customer service. He had issues with meeting timelines years ago when the business exploded, but he met the need with increases in capacity and as you stated, he never charged you until shipping, even on custom order units.
Charging your credit card months ahead of delivery for a standard (no custom order) unit is bad business. I understand the one man band type of custom work that is done, but when you agree to expand your distribution network, you have to prepare for it.
SVS, Outlaw, AV123, Odyssey among others all have built their success on a balance of great value along with understanding the needs of customer service.

It's not the manufacture (Dodd) at fault in my book, it's the retailer who made it look like he had these in stock. Had he been upfront and stated that this was to be ordered and it could take up to 2 months or longer and you would be charged full amount, I probably would have not went down that road.

Read-alot,
Man I hate to type this, because I like the gear so much, you could dispute the charge, easily done, they will remove the charge and you will not have to pay any interest during the dispute period. I am not sure but I think they hold back the funds from TG so they dont have your dough.
Or you could just cancel the order and have it removed. But like I say it would be a shame as far as not getting into tubes with the ELP. I agree its to long to have them hold your dough.

The ELP is no longer available from TweekGeek. That itself is telling.
Both are accountable........ Mike at TweekGeek and Gary D. They haven't learned to not get in over your head if you can't deliver.
This type of business dealings isn't new, some guys over at Audio Circles have waited since placing orders in April-May for Dodd products that Gary himself asked for the business on. It looks like some still haven't received the amps paid for months ago.
Dodd's Monoblock Offer (http://www.audiocircle.com/circles/viewtopic.php?t=18224&highlight=dodd)
I guess this is the price you pay for good sound. ;)
Those guy's are paying less than 40% of retail for those. For the most part they weren't complaining about the wait to the extent that they are wanting their money back. He made an offer and didn't expect to sell that many amps all at once. I wish he'd made that offer over here, $5200 pair of 120 wpc monos for $2000. For those amps, I could wait 6-8 months if I could get them for over 60% off.

I think retail is kinda relative here as I doubt very many products are sold at the retail pricing, seeing all the deals made.
I guess it boils down to.........you get what you pay and wait for.

Guess I got lucky with mine, I ordered August 19th and recieved September 22nd. He actually said he had an ELP "In Stock" and just had to go back and add the HT Bypass I wanted.

How do you like the ELP lomic? Did you get it direct from Gary or TG? I remeber our discussions about the HT Pass :) , bet it was much clearer when you hooked it up than trying to type out how it worked. :D

It fixed everything I considered wrong with my system. I attribute any weaknesses now to the room the system is in, and unfortunately that can't be fixed due to housemates ;)
It was direct from Gary and everything went without a hitch. Though I didn't really care for the NOS Amperex tubes he included - but I'm really diggin' the new JJ/Tesla 6DJ8's I got - unbelievable detail. Probably not a lot of Alice in Chains fans around here, but the guitar recording on their MTV unplugged performance with these tubes blows my mind.

Glad it worked out so well for you. Yea, I like the JJ its the best of tubes I have rolled so far, I have some coming though to try. I have used my JJ to the extent they are fading but I will order some more. If you do any classical they are great as well as jazz and blues.
