flying home with 7's?

I gave my brother my second set of lsi 7's. he wants to take them to the airport and send as a suitcase(in the polk box). Is this a bad idea? anyone every take speakers home this way? I dont want to damage the speakers. Leaving in 2 hrs so please give feedback soon.

There should be no difference in handling vs. any other carrier (UPS, Fedex, etc); they will throw them, drop them, etc. That's the way it is and you can see that by looking at any suitcase that has traveled a bit.

Will the speakers get damaged? well, if they are in the original package, they will probably survive. :)

After seeing my baggage after a 5 hour flight I'd be very scared to have them go on the plane as "baggage". They also lost my stuff twice... My bag had huge scrapes off the corner that clearly show it was dropped and dragged along concrete for some time as well as my name tag that was attached with a zap strap thingy was totally gone. If he can swing it take it as carry on.

thanks for the reply's. That was my thoughts also. My bags looked like they went through hell when I went to alaska this year. I will try to get them on a carry-on for him, if not they will stay here.

Just get a stroller... one of those ones that has two sides for twins and then... well you get the picture ;)

just wanted to update- the 7's made it to alaska with no problems. he is going to hook them up to a polk ds-2 system. He has the polk receiver and polk sub but no speakers. He says the sub has a 4 ohm 5 channel external amp on it so it should sound good. I told my brother to start looking for a lsic next. (and to keep an eye out for a deal on a seperate amp.)

He didn't by chance fly SouthWest airlines did he? That would make one hell of a funny episode of Airline. A Polkie not willing to give up his carry-on Polk speakers.....I can see it now :D

no, united. and they took a real long look at the polks...and yes I was laughing hard on the inside. They were finally approved by the forth security person(him telling them "be carefull"). My brother is 6'3", 190lbs, goo-tee, long leather jacket and carrying two army carry on bags. (with the lsi's.) What a sight to say the least.

my apologies for sneaking this in as a reply....i just registered and don't see a way to post a new topic...perhaps someone could tell me how to do that
has anyone used the m-cube system by mission?
i would have thought that might be anathema on this site until i saw the surround bar
i don't want my lr littered with wires and i know in wall systems have until recently gotten short shrift.
the m cube system has a large sweet spot with the trade-off being poor low end base. is this a significant issue for average dvd or cd playing or is it only a problem for heavy base rap etc?

I doubt you'll get much response posting in this thread... so heres how to post a new thread for your own little topic:

Go to the top of the page
just under the big polk audio logo it'll say "club polk" - click that
from there go into whatever section of the forum you want - probably speakers
then on the top left it'll say "post new thread"

As for the cubes themselves... I think you might come accross the usual home theater in a box problems. Since the little cubes only go down to 280 Hz you will either have to have the subwoofer produce directional frequencies or have a hole where you have no sound in certain frequencies. The theory is that any sound 80Hz and above is directional - as in you can hear where it is coming from. This means that you would have to place the sub preferably at the front in the middle because you will be able to hear directional frequencies coming from it. You might be able to accomplish the same uncluttered results with much better sound using in-walls...
