View Full Version : Thinking of getting LSi25s

I'm think of replacing my Carver Cinema Speakers 5.2 with a pair of Polk LSi25s and later a LSi5.
I can get the LSI25s in Cherry used locally for $1500. Do you think a dealer would be able to get close to this price for a new set? Would the warranty on a used pair transfer to me?
And do you think I'd miss the 24-29Hz from my current subwoofers to the 29Hz of the LSi25s?
I listen to music (SACD/DVD-Audio) about 60% and watch movies about 40% right now.
Thanks,
Tom

unless the dealer is an authorized dealer, then there is no warranty with those speakers. And I am pretty sure that as a general rule, Polk's warranties are non-transferable.
no one, however, will be able to touch that price.
as for the bass, it's hard to imagine how you'd miss your old sub. The main reason I stayed away from the 25's was because I thought the bass could get in the way too much.

It's not a dealer, it's a private sale. Mayeb it's a friend of mine who bought them for me as a 'gift'.
If he bought from an authorized dealer I am hoping that I could transfer the warranty to me.

From Polk's website: (Note info in bold type)
Warranty Policy
All Polk Audio home loudspeakers have a 5-year parts and labor warranty. The amplifiers used in our "powered speakers" (such as Powered Subwoofers) have a 3-year warranty. All outdoor speakers, such as Atrium Series, have a 2-year warranty. All car and computer speakers have a limited 1-year warranty, except for the Polk/MOMO Series of car speaker models, which are warrantied for 3 years.
To ensure a valid warranty, Polk loudspeakers must be purchased at an Authorized Polk Audio home or car loudspeaker Dealer. (If you're not sure a dealer is "authorized," call Polk Audio at 1-800-377-7655, and ask us.) eBay is not an authorized dealer! The warranty is not transferrable, that means it applies only to the original purchaser. If you purchase your speakers from a private individual, that product is considered "used" and has NO factory warranty, no matter what the seller implies.
The warranty is VOID if the serial number of the speaker has been removed or defaced.
If you have any questions about your warranty coverage, or you think you need service, call Polk Customer Service at 1-800-377-7655. We're here to help you get the most from your new speakers
Polk has been known to "help out" in some non-warranty situations...however this is thier stated policy. Polk's customer service is EXCELLENT!

That's awful. What if I bought a pair of speakers for my friend as a wedding gift? Would he not be able to get warranty repair? Or is it the first person to register the speaker with polk?

give him the gift receipt and then he gets the warranty. or the real receipt. this was the reason that I did not get $999 LSi15's on the internet from unarthorized dealers. Already I got a pair RTi28's and one came with a blown woofer. I had to buy that directly from Polk. That taught me a lesson. In the LSi's, I could only imagine the cost of parts. You used to be able to find them here, but they have since changed the site.

My suggestion is either buy the speakers from an authorized seller....and reap all of the benefits....or buy them on the cheap and take your chances. Your choice.

Let's say I but these and a center from a dealer like Tweeter, what kind of discount do you think I could ask for that would be reasoable for me AND the dealer?
I offered $2200 on my $2400 Sony HDTV 5 years ago.

10 to 15 percent is reasonable to ask. You may or may not get it.

I would buy the LSi15s and with the money you save buy
a separate sub-woofer.

Tweeter will not budge. simple. Polk will not let them. If you buy flor models of an retired series then you may get a discount.
trust me: I am the buy the floor model junkie!

You know I may jsut do this.
I listened to theLSi25 and the LSi15s and I think the 15s sound better.
I thought the 25s had a muddy kind of sound and I did adjust the sub levels down. Something about the 25s didn't sound as good the the 15s.
Do the 15s have a different cross over, or drivers or something?
I like music better on the 15s. Star Wars Pod Race scene benefitted from a sub (I used a PSW12).
Am I crazy?
Oh, Tweeter seemed to be a little lower on list than list and they may be having a sale on November 12th and 13th.

I listened to both and definitely preferred the LSi15s.
Much more natural low end for music and definitely
need a good sub whichever way you go...
I am in the process of building a house. It will have a combo family/HT room. I have put together the following for the HT/Music. Any advice will be appreciated!
B & K AVR 507 S2
Pioneer DV 59 AVI
Pioneer PD F1009
Pioneer PDP 504 CMX
Fronts LSi25's
Surround TC80i's
Rear LSi9's
Center LSiC
Sub Axiom EP500
Monster HTS 5100
This will be a medium size room. I did put it all together in the living room at my current house, just for a test...............WOW! I intend to mount the LSi9's on the back wall, but not sure at what height. Should the TC80i's be centered or place toward the back? Like a say any help will be appreciated.

I would not go with LSi9 for the rear, it's an overkill for surround back use. I have tried it. I had 7 in the back, and now switched over to LSiFx. I like FX better than 7, it's more coverage and provide the effect that I like. Also, front, I vote for 15 more than 25. There is enough review/feedback from others in the forum, about the advantage of 15 over 25. Please do your search within the forum. It's better off to use the fund for a bigger/better sub.
What you are planning for is one hell of a setup, you'll love it. Lastly, welcome to the forum!

cdo3,
Since it appears you already have all of the equipment, my first suggestion would be to enjoy it.
My next suggestion would be to get a sound level meter and a calibration disc(like AVIA's guide to home theater). If you have already done this, again just enjoy.
When you get to a more permanent place, post some pics in the system showcase.
Have a good one and welcome to the forum.

With rear speakers, it's more about matching them up with the rest of your system. If you have large mains, you don't want to get something too small for the back.
