Peter Jackson's spent $207 million on his remake of King Kong, with a showing time of 3 hours.

Looks like I won't be buying a 128 ounce soda at this movie.

Coming soon to a theater near you...December 14th.

I saw the trailer but I don't know... I just couldn't get worked up about this one. I will wait for the word of mouth on it.

It might not be the best film ever, but I'm sure that if Peter Jackson is involved, it will at least be entertaining and worth the $8-10 per ticket to see it on the big screen. If not it won't be the first or last movie I've wasted a few dollars on. I won't be going into the theater expecting the best movie ever to be put on film, just an entertaining one done by an excellent director with an eye for the small details that has helped him and his films win several Oscars.

I'm having a hard time figuring out why in the hell Peter Jackson wanted/allowed Jack Black to be in this film. There had to be someone else with a bit more talent available.

I will be in attendance. Kong....... is the man. Not to be confused with that piece of crap released about 1979. The 1933 version was absolutely awesome.

Growing up in Brooklyn in the 50's, one could watch The Million Dollar Movie on WOR-TV channel 9. They showed the same movie 3 times a day all week long. It allowed you to become intimately familiar with your favorites, and that was a favorite. There were scenes from that movie that I saw later in life, that were never shown when I was a kid. Specifically the part when he breaks through the fortress gate and tears up the village. The part where he stomps one of the villagers into the ground, and picks up another and bites him.

My favorite line from that movie is easily when the villagers kidnap Anne Darrow from the ship, and the Asian deckhand finds the beads that she ripped off the villagers neck before they went overboard. The line was "Clazy black man take Miss Anne!"

I can't wait.

Its going to be very hard to beat the original. I expect Kong will have lots of very cool fx, and booming bass and so on. I expect I might enjoy it, but who is left that can act the roles like the originals, I dont know!!!

I hear ya GG, I caught Fonda and the cast in 12 Angry Men the other day, one of the greatest examples of collaboration/leadership I have ever seen.

Without trying to derail this thread, YES! Just try and sell a movie today that is filmed in black and white, with almost the entire movie (except for the last two minutes) filmed in one room. Add in that there was not a female, or special effect to be seen. A totally riveting movie, the type where you RUSH to the bathroom during the commercials. I enjoy 12 Angry Men immensely.

If you enjoyed that movie, and haven't seen The Grapes of Wrath, or the original Of Mice and Men, give those a try also Reel. You won't be disappointed.

Good original 1933 Kong trivia question for East Coasters and New York City guys in particular. Where did the airplanes that gunned him off the Empire State Building take-off from?

"Twelve Angry Men", "Of Mice and Men" and "The Grapes of Wrath" are three TRUE CLASSICS. A year of so ago one of my daughter's required reading was "The Grapes of Wrath". After she finsished the book I MADE her watch the film since she was not in favor of watching and "old black and white movie". Even she was impressed with this movie and while her favorite genre is still the currrent crop of mindless "chick flick" movies, she now has an appreciation for classics which should help broaden her horizions as far as movies are concerned.

Right on Shackman!

Okay, the airplanes that felled Kong (1933) were launched from Floyd Bennett Field, Brooklyn. It is still there, almost at the intersection of the Belt Parkway and Flatbush Ave. Last time I saw the NYPD was flying helicopters out of there. In the early 70's when it was largely abandoned, my friend Joe and I would go tearing ass down the closed runway in his Lotus.

I like the fact that they set it back in the earlier 1900's. And although I think Naomi Watts is a bit old for the role, she is a joy to watch on screen.
