Hey, what do you guys think of the dx3065 component sets? I want comparisons to maybe the new polk db components or even the momo components. Sound quality and loud enough output for keeping up with 2 db12s is what i'm looking for. I like the sound of the db components and the momo components that are out now, and i ended up buying a set of dx3065 components off ebay, am I gonna be happy?

I have a set of them laying around from an old install. Very pleased with them, I can't compare them to the new stuff though. PoweredByDodge has alot more experience with the DX stuff, so he's better to ask probably.

*cough cough cough*
New momo components (aka baby momo's) are IMO equal in quality to the DX series.
My component ideology... (disregarding the SR's because they are a) probably heads above all of this stuff... and b) i never head them and c) they're double the price of this stuff).
1- Original DB's (many years ago)
2- Original and 2nd Gen Momo's
Tied for 3rd - DX series and Baby Momo's (Momo Carbon)
4- DB Junior's (new DB series of the last few years)
5- EXIII series
6- EXII series

ok so if I personally hate the sound of infinity reference coaxials (what i have in my car right now) and they leave me feeling like they are high pitched shrill sounding speakers that emphasize certain horrible tones in a way that makes me want to jab a pencil into my eye, will I be impressed with the dx3065's? The infinity's right now make, say, DMX's voice sound like lil bow wow's..... if you know what I mean.

Never heard the DX's so I cant speak to them but I have used Infinitys and switched them out for some Momo's and I can attest that the Momos are so much better than the Infinitys youll kick yourself for not upgrading sooner.
And the proper order goes:
1- Signature Reference
2- All other speakers -----> http://www.animation-station.com/smileys/images/bowdown.gif

Oh and Mac those darn things do sound pretty darn sweet :). Very smoooooth. I sat there at Tweeter for a while with some instrumental South American Andes Mountain type music, as well as other stuff. The instrumental stuff though has many different instruments playing so it is a nice CD to listen to while trying stuff out.

dB3065's up front and a set of dB6500's in back with a dB124. Used to have a dB104 until it wore out.
skydeaner, the DX series was meant to be an "improvement" over the dB series but in all honesty, it wasn't. The DX series however is no slouch. They did improve bass response but alot of people considered the DX to be too punch compared to the dB series. However, compared to alot of other component systems out the the DX series was being compared to stuff in the 600-1000 dollar range and they were only about 350-400 IIRC. I don't think you will be disappointed at all. Jut some advice, they don't take to over-powering well. I wouldn't push over-powering more than 20 watts. Then again, if you set your crossovers up right, you can get by with just over half of the rated power and get excellent performance.

I may go active with my DB3065's. Still trying to decide on my other amp.

So you're saying they only handle about 50wrms?

oh hell no - is that what they're rated for?
i would say 80 to 130 is safe and happy for them.
after that you'd better a) be using a good quality low distortion amplifier and have them crossed over appropriately... and b) know when to dial it back a knotch.
i was running about 180 per channel to my set when i started blowing drivers.

ah ok, cool, I just have a kenwood 75x2 under my front seat that is going to be powering them so I guess I should be ok. You guys are gettin me so excited.
With 75 watts to each side, do you think they will keep up with 2 of the new polk db12's with 300 rms watts on each one?

I'm not sure, but I'd say probably not.

cool, my db6510 speakers are getting 140 watts from a clean amp. So far they are holding up well as I am not abusing them.
I didn't know the dx's were supposed to have more bass. I always thought they were the same speaker.

the dx were - from what i've been told - supposed to be more efficient - the db's pretty much required you to have an amplifier - the dx's could be run off deck power, although they retained the power handling abilities of the db's --- however, they in no way shape or form retained the pristine musical qualities of the original db's. close, but not close enough to call them a direct replacement in my opinion. dont' get me wrong, i'm still the dx poster boy - i've owned more dx speakers in my day than most people have even seen in their life. and i loved all of them.
75 x 2 to the fronts with two 300 watt subs - you'll be fine.
the ex gf has two dx 10's with about 250 watts each going to them and is running 60 x 2 to her dx 5 1/4 inch components up front and dx 6" coaxials in the back - car sounds extremely awesome - then again i did the install, so that makes sense - lolololol.
i was doing 180 x 2 to mine when i had two IDmaxes with 1,300 watts going to each in my extended cab truck.

... and apparently i'm locked out of ebay - son of a b****
oh well - screw em.
i've got a "24 thousand dollar paint job" on my hands... what a bunch of bullcrap that is. Guy gives me a written estimate for "10 to 15 grand" in WRITING - then restores the body and paints it and gives me a bill for almost 24 grand. what a piece of trash.

its the bloody f****** cadillac. it's been sitting in paint for like FOREVER - and finally the guy is done with it - he's been using it as "filler" work for when his collision work gets slow - i mean, that's fine, that's cool, it's not everyday a guy gets a WHOLE car to strip, block down, metal work, and paint. - but 9 grand over estimate and just 2 weeks ago he told me "we're going to be toward the high end of that 10 to 15 estimate, but we're still ok"... oh i'm fuming. I'm going to the cops for extortion next.
