Just bought my RTi8s, CSI5, and RTI4s at Tweeter. They knocked off about $200.
I need advice on a subwoofer. I don't want to spend a forune, but I want something that is decent.
The room is about 16 x 30 - the 16 is the depth from the couch to the TV, the 30 is the width of the room.
They tried to sell me on a Martin Logan Dynamo at Tweeter. I read these forums to get the speaker reviews and now I'm asking for help picking out a subwoofer.
I'm using a JVC RXD702 receiver - it puts out a 150W

SVS all the way. Email or Fax them a sketch of your room. They'll give you a recommendation and won't oversell you. You can't beat the quality, price and service!

For my HT, I have the SVS box sub PB12/plus. It is an incredible sub and shakes the pictures on the walls (I have cloth behind them to keep them from rattling). The guys at SVS did me right and did not try to oversell me at all. Matter of fact, I had my check all ready to purchase their Ultra sub but was convinced differently after talking to them about my room size and set-up.
Good luck!
BTW... if you select SVS, be sure you have a place to put this monster. They believe size has a lot to do with sound production. Thus their large sound comes at a large size container.

Martin Logan subs are some of the best I've ever heard.
The Dynamo is a great little sub, but not enough for your large room.
SVS is a great recommendation, but the Martin Logan Grotto is a superb sub. Small, easy to place, and a lot of sound from a small box. SVS subs are HUGE. If you're looking for something with big sound but not a large box, the Grotto is the only one of those mentioned that can accomplish that. I've never sold a Grotto to anyone who didn't absolutely love it. It will shake your walls no problem. At $1000, it isn't cheap, but it isn't "a fortune" in the scheme of things either.
I just have a lowly SVS PB10-ISD, but it can slam. I've built lots of subs in my life, but, for once, thought I'd treat myself to something from SVS ... and what a treat it has been. :)

After exchanging emails with SVS and Dr Hsu (he answers requests), and reading all the pros and cons online, I went to HSU's showroom (3 miles from my house) and purchased the VTF3-MK2.
It's still in the car, so after I get everything hooked up and tweeked I'll post a report.

If you are looking for a sub under $400 just to add a little bass to some bookshelf (or smaller) speakers - the less expensive polk / velodyne subs that most of the chain stores sell will work fine.
If you are willing to spend $500 or more on a sub - what you get for your money is a HUGE jump. SVS, HSU, Outlaw all make great subs but they are not overly cheap (or in the case of SVS - small). Comparing based on Price / Performance they are much better than the mass market polk/velo subs.
If you are serious about HT - you deserve to at least listen to what $500-$1,000 will get you from one of the above mentioned companies. All the companies listed have decent return policies and depending on where you live - you may be close enough for someone to invite you over for a listen....
