Got my Sound Quest SQ-88 (http://www.goodsound.com/equipment/sound_quest_sq88.htm) today!

Only had it going for about 2 hours, but I am already loving the sound. So far it is not quite as tight on the low end as my Parasound Halo P3/A23 combo, but mids and highs seem SO MUCH sweeter. Everything just seems to flow smoother.

Obviously I have a lot of time before it is fully broken in. After I get about 100 to 150 hours on it I will post a more detailed review. Also can't wait to do some tube rolling.

Thanks goes out to all you guys that wouldn't shut up about tube gear! ;)

You're most welcome for the relentless urgings from me and the others, if I may speak for them. :D

Congrats!!!! The bass should tighten up with burn-in and maybe some better tubes.

Yea I have already had a couple recommendations to try Tesla JJ EL34BL tubes. Suppose I should at least get these burned in first.

Congrats. That int looks sweet.

Did you mean JJ KT88? Your int uses KT88's not EL34.

Connect your speakers to the 4 ohms taps. The LSi9 can be a difficult load for tubes.

It can use either.

Ah very interesting. Plenty of tubes to roll. If you want to try El34 first, I recommend JJ E34L. However, since you're powering LSi9, KT88's should be a better match.

Congrats!!

Do you guys know how much good tube gear is going to be floating around on this forum alone in the next couple years as people upgrade and try different pieces out?

Good times at CP!!

I understand that different brands of tubes have different sonic signature, and I have seen posts from you guys like, brand X tube has tighter bass than brand Y or brand A's high is less grainy than brand B. Just curious, is this kind of different specific to the tube brands, or it is also a function of both the amp and the tubes? In other words, do I expect to hear the same diff of tone change if the same 2 brands is played from a different amp?

Fred,
The way I see it is, yes. Each brand of tube have their own sound signature and this have a major impact on the overall sound. If you do a search on audioasylum you will see that the 'sound' members hear with each brand is pretty consistant. This is for power tubes. With small signal tubes, it's quite different. This is where a lot of people get very picky. Really depends on what you're looking for. Some like it warm and smooth while others want transparency/details, etc. I like neutral/analitical for the pre and a little bit of warmth on the amp.
